@kmlangleyauthor Older writers are leaving and newer ones are arriving (which often are naive to the site's faults). It is I also like Inkitt a lot.

I do it for fun and to find other creators. I feel it's a good way to push yourself to improve, and it gets me motivated if there's a chance of someone reading my comic.

@nathanKmcwilliams that’s really cool - especially having a timeline really worked out learning and failing are so important as an artist. And having a safe place with limited repercussions to do so is really helpful

@kmlangleyauthor I'm mostly focusing on Tapas right now but I've a presence on Inkitt as well because I publish regulary books there too.

for me it's about learning to write what people want to read within my ability. Initially, I chose Wattpad to do that, but it didn't work, because I couldn't get into the 'seen' group, so I ended up soliciting feedback. It was useful in many ways, but it didn't serve my original goal. Wattpad was simply too big for my level of writing mastery.

Tapas allows me to post & see if I am going in the right direction.

I did select 'build a following', but for me a definition of a big following is not really that big. I currently have surpassed my wildest expectations for my novel about threefold.

@domisotto I think most of us, to an extent, want a following. It sucks to put your work out there and not be seen. But it does seem to be a secondary motivation for a lot of us.

Pretty much all of the above lol Making comics is an addiction. I can't not do it. So I want to do it well and hopefully make a couple bucks on the side

Equal parts fun, audience building, & side-gig.

Fun is my primary motivator- drawing and comics are a hobby first and foremost and so I make sure to tackle projects that keep it fun, and if it stops being fun then I simply take a break.

That said, I have been pouring the type of time and effort into it over the last few years that somewhat exceeds "just for fun" and that is because I do quite like the idea of building an audience (not just on Tapas, but in general) and find that process fun in its own way.

I don't ever see art and comics becoming my primary income but I do quite like the idea of having my art generate some supplemental income at some point Tapas has been fantastic for that already with the ink system! Thanks to numerous highly generous people I already made way more by posting my 1st comic than I ever could have expected. To this end I've also been working on diversifying my content some, from trying to build up general art social media presence to recently taking a swing at live streaming and video creation.

Above all else though, it all circles back to everything being an enjoyable set of hobbies~

@Rhonder I love that you’ve thought this out to the point that you’re aware how important the fun aspect is for you and I’m sure that translates through to your story as well! And I don’t think anyone is turning down ink these days that’s really awesome that you’ve made some side money out of doing something you enjoy so much!

Absolutely And it's one of the things that can get you into a flow state and most people love being in flow state

Mostly im driven to learn to tell my storys, because i have so many and storys are meant to be told for an audience right? and its fun sharing, and even more fun if a few ppl actually like it

and im drawing my story in comic format because i very much like to draw and design characters, but not so much backgrounds, but now that i started my first most serious comic project, it has also forced me to finally do backgrounds too and i guess thats a good thing, hah

my goal is first to be able to complete this project, and i do love going to conventions (i do hope we can go back to convention times soon again ach) and maybe ill print the first few chapters to get a feel for if ppl like it! Its always fun to see and hold your stuff freshly printed

if my comic could ever ever be a small side income, that would be a dream come true, but its not the main goal

I signed up for this site for the same reasons as a lot of people. I wanted my work to be seen and to improve. I started posting here as a test run when I started to get tired of Wattpad. Even before the forums went down, it was more a place for teenage writers and writers the site hired/sponsored. It wasn't a good fit.

I've had a much better time getting readership and feedback so now all of my new stuff is posted to Tapas.

Lol, I get runner’s high too. And went to a sport event live once, can’t wait to go again to see athletes I like win and scream my head off when they do. Also, videogames. I guess, I chase endorphins any way I can! Heh, mind blown...

The dream is to publish my book one day. I have been working on it for a year this month I believe actually. I need to double check that. But It is hard and writing the first draft on an online site, helps a ton. I get feedback, sometimes, and I get the motivation to keep writing because I know at least someone is reading it.

@rumpenstiltzkin yes! Having people read your story is so motivating!! And learning on the go is a lot more productive, I’ve found. It keeps me out of my own head a bit when I’m posting my progress instead of just obsessively going over a certain part. I miss going places like conventions, too

@cherrystark it’s so nice to see so many people who’ve found a good readership and community here! I feel really lucky that I started here because I think some of the other communities might have scared me off from posting my stuff online

@domisotto you’re definitely a weird person if you enjoy running I jest - I personally despise running (but I love cycling ) but to each their own. I’m really curious, do you consider yourself an adrenaline junkie or would you place being an endorphin chaser in a separate category?
