Why is there only a 40 page limit?

OK friend, lets look at the file SIZES shall we?

Webtoon's is thus:
800px wide and 1280px long.
You can upload up to 20MB in total. Each file can be up to 2MB.

Tapas's requirements
940 x 4000px, with a maximum file size of 2MB. (for each one)

So friend... yes Webtoon allows more files.... because they are 1/4 (almost) the length of the ones Tapas allows. AND...
Let's not forget Tapas allows creators to put ANIMATION, webtoons does not.

This does NOT limit creativity if you actually look at the numbers.

That's what I mean when I say it would feel like a waste if I didn't use the whole 940 x 4000. (And I don't see how having this huge page helps make loading better than a bunch of small pages loading in as you scroll down)

If I cut up 940 x 300, that's one page wasted.

They should keep the 2MB limit per page, but at the same time have a total limit size per chapter.

2MB X 40 Pages = 80MB limit per chapter.

We can then cut our pages however we want, no matter how small, without worrying about the 40 page limit.

And when you want to do one tiny page strip of animation, that counts as one page.

ok first of all, this is going to sound very harsh but you are basically arguing over something the rest of the site doesnt care about cause they know how to adapt, also, no, i can have an animated panel without it taking up a single page, you just turn the whole segmant into a gif and just have the one panel be animated, its not that hard to figure out

The people of Tapas forums doesn't necessarily have to care.

But Tapas the company should care.

Because, I may be just one person here right now, but what if there's a dozen other creators in this wide world who has the same opinion as me. That may not seem like a lot but let's discount me for a second, if just one of those creators would become very popular in the future, and they had decided not to upload to Tapas, well then Tapas would have lost out.

Tapas should care deeply.

You really don't understand how this process works.

Ultimately, though, if you had what was needed to become wildly popular you could either do it on your own site without the help of Tapas, or you would know how to work within the relatively large space they give you.

If you expect the company itself to care the forums is not the place to post about it. This is not a platform for contacting the company directly. They have feedback@tapas.io at the bottom of the main page for a reason.

Given that there are currently over 60K comics listed on Tapas (2K pages of 30 each), they won't be hurting for prospects.

You're demanding something incredibly specific in a market that is over-saturated with tens of thousands of creators that are completely okay working within the format.

I am here as a creator, looking for opinions.

If someone can convince me, that'd be the best case.

But as of yet, I haven't been convinced otherwise.

And maybe there are other like-minded creators who were on the fence or haven't voiced their opinions.

If that's the case, all the reason not to upload to Tapas.

Because you don't have to pay single dime to use this platform. The cost is fitting into what they offer for you. Something 60 thousand creators are okay with. Things that every other creator in this thread, myself included, are completely okay with.

If it doesn't suit your tastes, and you have an idea that will take off like wild fire, you are completely welcome to purchase server space to host this epic story of yours.

But because you upload to their platform, you are the product.

Because without products, they wouldn't be able to entice webcomic readers to come to their website or app.

Then they won't get their ad money.

Without creators they are nothing.

Okay, but I don't think you quite understand.

There are 60,000 comics already using the platform just fine. Ad revenue brings in very little money in the grand scheme of things, especially in the era of very effective ad blockers. Their profits mostly come from things like their paywalled premium content and other sources.

You could always go to Tumblr where you get a max of 10 pages per upload.

I think the reality is that there's going to be some limit, and as changing it isn't a matter of an employing just snapping their fingers, this is an unlikely priority.

It's okay that it's important to you, obviously. But I know there are things I'd rather see the small staff deal with before a problem that has an easy work around for the vast majority.

I think the cut off for novels is way more limiting, by comparison. And probably easier to extend? I don't know.

What, exactly, are we as other creators to convince you of? Using the Tapas website? You either want to use it or you don't.

You either work with what's been given or move to a different site. If you want to upload 10 images per update, then do so. If you want to upload 1, then do so. If you want to upload all 40, then do so.

To be fair, we complain about format stuff on tapas all the time here, it just so happens that this particular opinion doesn't seem to be shared with many. If they're complained about not being able to choose more than one genre, everyone would be rushing to agree and complain! Lol

Oh, absolutely. "The format" in this case was shorthand for the complaint in question, IE being only "limited" to 40 pages at time.

Definitely 30-40 pages is very good, but for vertical comics, that might as well be about half that, because our panels are very big, so maybe about 3-4 panels per page.

Wait so you're upset because you wanna publish updates that have 120-160 panels an update? On a site that prides itself in "bite-sized" consumable comics? How long does it take you to make these mammoth updates? I may have only been doing this for 2 yrs but that is A LOT of work to do weekly. And the goal is weekly(or more frequently) updates. But also I have been reading vertical webtoons for nearly a decade now(maybe longer?) and this number of panels even in comics that have longer updates is really rare. Even when reading longer webtoons, I could easily see spots within the long update that the author could have stopped and still had the episode feel satisfying(easily cutting like 20 panels). I think once you reach 80+panels there's gotta be a spot somewhere to cut off. Remember cliffhangers are good.
