Why is there only a 40 page limit?

I am personally confused by what is bothering you about the 40 page per episode limit. As a personal example, every chapter I've written for my comic has been under 30 pages, but my updates, for the most part, are only two pages at a time. For other scrolling comics that I've seen, it seems like the amount of pages they have never breached the 20 pg mark (at least from what I can tell). What story do you need to tell that can't be simply be split at opportune scenes so to fall within the parameters of Tapas' page limit? And you mentioned earlier that Webtoons offers a larger page limit. Is that still not enough?

The strange chides at Tapas as a free platform don't do much for your argument especially when the majority of people replying in this topic don't particularly agree with you. I do understand your frustration with being limited on this platform, but it is a free platform that you don't have yo use. If you really can't get over the limitations you're better offer posting your story somewhere else. If Tapas is able to profit off of something that's working for 60,000 other creators, as @colinmooredraws said, then they really don't have to worry about you. If you find a problem where no one else does, then it probably isn't a problem.

And yea @SleepingPoppy, the limits for novels only let you put in like, a quarter of a chapter. That's so unfair.

That was one of my biggest confusions, too. It can take months to produce 40-pages worth of updates. Even if they were counting each "page" as being a single panel, 40 panels a week is still a crazy amount of work.

Sure there is adblock on desktop platforms, and some mobile web browsers have pretty good ad blocking built in.

The only platform they have control over is their App, which like you said may not bring much revenue.

Things behind a paywall gets taken and hosted for free on those pirate megasites, I really doubt they make that much.

But like I mentioned one creator can have a huge impact, and those 60,000 creators didn't just appear out of thin air.

The site started with one or a few creators, and have only accumulated so many over the years.

If Tapas have even more creators, instead of losing them to other competitors, don't you think Tapas would be a better place overall?

Chiefly, if Tapas become even more financially successful due to talented new creators, then the other lesser known or lesser successful ones will benefit from Tapas.

With more money in their pockets, Tapas would be able to offer better services or promotions to their creators.

Why would I come to the forums, and write all this up if I didn't care.

I would've just went wherever I fancied.

Is it wrong of me to want one for one uploads?

With the way it is, I can't just upload to Webtoons, and then using the same files upload to Tapas.

I'd have to rethink and reformat my uploads for Tapas, thus altering the original webcomic source.

As a creator, having to alter my files, knowing that the people that read on Webtoons will be reading a different version than the one for Tapas, and vice versa. They're not having the same intended experience.

Let's say I want to upload to two places in particular: Webtoons and Tapas.

Webtoons has a 800px x 1280px page size with a maximum file size of 2MB per page, with a 20MB maximum episode limit.

Tapas has a 940px x 4000px page size, with a maximum file size of 2MB, with 40 page limit.

Now I could very well plan within the limits, resize each one by width, and use a page cutter to dynamically cut the pages.

Sure that would work.

But what if I as a creator didn't want my panels cut across, what if I wanted control over where is cut is?

Do you not see the problem with have a 40 page limit?

if you want more control than 40 pages that are 4000px tall to use, then you need somewhere that isn't Tapas. Compare Lackadaisy on it's original site vs Tapas. The creator altered it to suit the vertical format and made some major changes to the formatting. While keeping their original format on their own site.

I'm still unsure how this can be a problem. At 2mb limit per page for 40 pages limit, you'll be having 80mb of quality content long of 4000px per page per chapters, and remember, webtoon only have 20mb limit, and the length is only 1280mb per pages.

In a glance, don't you think tapas has it better?

Sticking up for the creator? I'm just not seeing the problem for creators cause there are so many options already presented in this thread that make this not a problem.

Once again I'm gonna emphasize the site's name is called "tapas" because of the "bite sized" comic idea. They don't want your 160+ panel comic, they want bite sized comics. You think this is all about enticing creators? You're wrong, this is about providing something for readers. They are within their rights to set limitations on the content they want to host on their site. They are selling bite sized comics to readers who want bite sized content.

I mean you're within your right to complain about this and ask for it to change, but I think what annoys me is that there are so many BETTER things to ask for to change about the site, that the 40 page limit is just never gonna even make the top of that list, ever.

That's what I've been wondering. Just based on sheer size, Tapas is the largest I've ever seen (40 pages that are 4000px tall). I'm from the old school of webcomics where you could only ever do 1 page or image at a time. Even general art sites were just 1 page. When Tumblr allowed 10 whole images at once, that was wild. And after coming to Tapas, Webtoons limits seemed way too small, but that was mostly because it could only be 800px wide and I had to reduce file quality so much.

For you maybe, but not everyone wants to use 4000px tall.

The problem is that 1x1 pixel image is also considered 1 page.

Not that I would make anything that small, or for some reason people think I'm making some epic 160+ webcomic chapter.

It's the fact that if I upload small images, it counts as 1 page.

Don't forget that 2MB limit per page also exists.

A better way would have a chapter data limit.

Webtoons is 20MB per chapter and I would be okay with Tapas having a 20MB chapter limit. Providing there's no page count limitations.

To tell you the truth, this is something I've complained about when I'm still new (not sure if I ever do it on the forum) but as time goes, I realize they didn't matter because me, as a reader, even though I like long chapters, it is tiring to actually reading everything in one go. As a creator, although I'm half a*sed it and haven't made my full lengths stuff yet, I know for sure that they took a lot of time to make, and expectation for having a regular chapters length for every updates is an exhausting problem in itself.

There's already several creators that's asking advice Like "should I cut up my content or should I lessening the panels/page count per chapter update because it is impossible for me to actually deliver without exhausting myself".

Just something to thought off. I also hate limit (and you don't know how the limit is like for the novels creators), but I let it go because there's no point in arguing about it, but I'll respect your opinion.
