First of all: I've seen more russian or popular in Russia novels/serials than non-russian. So I can have some cultural bias here. But I still can see that my words are applyable for at least some novels, films, serials and comics written "for women" in english and popular in other countries too.
So, yes, I'm upset about how women are depicted in "women-oriented" series.
Usually in the "novel for women" you have one main heroine, which is... umm... nobody. Really. She often have no hobbies, no interests, no dreams, no purposes, not related with relationships between genders. The whole her life is building around romantic interactions with men. Other women are divided by two types. First are just figurants who observe main heroine's romantic events with men and listen to her with compassion. Second are vile and envious snakes who don't think about anything but to take her beloved away from her, make dirty rumors or cover her with a dishonor of some kind. All their talks are around males and dresses, almost nothing more.
And all of them are not people, they have no inner world, they are just parasites, whose only purpose in life is to stick to some male, even if they declare the opposite in words.
Of course, in this kind of fiction, men often seems not natural and haven't rich personalities too. But they are still more like humans than women.
Well, um, I don't know why other women like to see all of this. It all seems meaningless and even sometimes disgusting to me. I am a woman, and I'm not a solipsist or something, I believe that other women and men have consciousness and some kind of inner world. When you think logically, you can also suppose that because women-oriented series are usually also romance-oriented, they should concentrated on humans personalities, because romantic interactions are mostly based on it. But no, this is not the case.
Surprisingly, women look like a people more often (but not always) in girls-love stories, than in traditional romance, I dunno why.
When I said those thoughts to my friend male, he said that I don't like "novels for women" just because I'm non-typical girl but nerd. I told him that other girls which I'm interacting with are totally different from those who are depicted in "novels fo women", too. He answered that they are also nerds.
Then I've recalled the time when I went to pole-dance sport section and have seen a lot of girls who are not nerds. They were more concerned about their bodies than people I accustomed to, but of course they weren't just dolls or envious snakes or parasites dreaming about sticking to the male day and night... they were just humans which pay much attention to their appearance (which is just logical, because in pole-dance you shows your body among other things). Of course, I often listened their chit-chat in changing room and participated in discussions, too. Of course, they discussed many things besides males. When I've communicated more with some of other girls, I've learned about their hobbies and friends, works and studies. One like to read, another like to draw. One is clerk, second is fitness trainer, third is learning design in university etc etc. They weren't nerds, but they clearly had consciousness, interests, not connected with males, inner thoughts etc. And I didn't hear them making dirty rumors about each other or other sorts of nasty things which characters of "novels for women" make. I know that it all sounds obvious, I even was upset that this was need to be said...
After that he said that I was lucky to interact with friendly and reasonable women, but there are also many shallow, ignorant and envious, heavily male-centered ones. Of course. Bad, stupid and boring people of each gender exist. But you know, even those ones who I count like this, are still more human-like that ones who are depicted in "novels for women". They are just bad or boring or stupid humans, but humans. It is really hard to find in real life the person who is so much not like human as "women novels" heroines...
I just really have a huge butthurt about all of this. I don't know why people like that sort of "creative work" if you understand what I'm talking about. I just wanted to blow off steam somewhere. Thanks for attention.
