Here is the worldbuilding, about the moon and if you wanna read I do hope you find it worth it.
What is religion like in your world? Are any characters devout?
There had been a sharp increase for a short period of time amongst humans during a 'dark era' for the moon in certain religions such as old ones like Vajrayana Buddhism and new ones such as the New Anglican Church. However, in more recent times, the number has decreased dramatically with around 15% to 35% of the human population of the moon.
VitaNavs however don't have for the most part 'religion' specifically. While some have joined human religions most rather live by customs and traditions that are followed strictly in some tribes. So I would estimate 5% to 15% of VitaNav populations have a defined religion.
And to make things more complicated are sapient animal species, with many isolated groups that have no interactions with humans have been known to build up their own religions. Even some species that interact with VitaNavs or do eventually encounter humans still hold onto their own beliefs in the origin of aspects of life and of 'higher beings' of sorts/
What kind of technology exists? Is it more in tune with our world or is it something else? (i.e., steampunk)
While the earth has more futuristic technology, the moon has been held back harshly due to recent conflicts along with the earth imposing rules due to some past conflicts showing consequences now. So while it is set in the future their technology varies dramatically, with isolated and non-governed towns/cities being compared to modern technology.
Meanwhile, small established areas do have more advanced technology while the important or rich places have technology comparable to earth in their time. Some of the new fancy devices include self-automated devices (cars), fully controlled households, and even barriers of sorts to protect civilians from outside factors.
VitaNavs themselves have either stolen from humans, made their own, or hybridized their technology with humans to produce new items. Though for the most part, the more isolated the tribe is the more primitive the technology, with some going as far back as mud and wood housing and bows and swords being used. But for a fair majority with the implementation of gifts (something in the story), they can still produce their own successful and unique technologies without the use of human aspects, building their own cities and weapons.
How do human characters interact with non-human characters?
All non-human characters are products of genetic modifications, as such, there are different views that are shown with these characters.
One complicated situation is while there are a few different 'breeds' of intelligent animals. These can be seen with the expected intelligent animals such as sapient parrots and ravens, or even less expected such as some sea lions they are treated still like animals, because while they do have the intelligence and the capability to live in complex systems and develop their own beliefs many are unaware of their true sapients as it is normally rare for a sapient species to interact with humans due to geographic location, language barriers and so forth.
VitaNavs are more complicated with their more 'inhumane' origins and creation, and even amongst them, there is a division. As while there are tribes that do work peacefully and some go as far as to implement themselves into human society there is still a stigma about their original purpose, with some political discussion over what rights they should and shouldn't have and even on what is an acceptable way to interact with them. Though it is not only with discussion, as during the time of the story there are still battles between humans and VitaNavs with both sides removing each other from certain areas and no clear winner allegedly.
How does the economy work? Is it more capitalist, communist, or socialist?
Now as the moon has been built by many nations from the earth, the economy had to be established early on. While at first, it was a capitalist-dominated environment. However, with the weakening bonds from the earth, along with the issues arising on it new ideas are springing up and changes are occurring, with communist and socialist 'states' of sorts popping up in less controlled environments.
Animal-driven communities have for the most part have not reached that level of economics, though with some of the sea lion communities that interact with humans and VitaNavs there is a capitalist sort of view amongst their economy. However, VitaNavs have a tribalist sort of view on the economy, though it is common to see some established tribes have a pseudo-communist economy of sorts while others do copy direct aspects of human economy.
Does the world's history affect the story?
Yes, yes it does. Human history (that I made up) has heavily affected aspects of the moon, such as its political stance and even on why the story is even happening in the first place. It does involve a lot of bloodshed and violence even down its earliest aspects along with the disregard to ethics and the advancement of technologies. This along with the history of the moon gets more complicated despite its short existence of around 2 to 3 centuries since its first establishment.
If you managed to read through this entire thing then bless your poor, poor soul. Now go have the chance to read my work and if you do I do hope you enjoy it
