I think it would be pretty awesome to have enough sway over people's imaginations that they would want to continue thinking about my characters.
Even if I didn't agree with the content, as long as they weren't saying they created my characters...then I'd leave them be. When someone wants to do something, they'll do it regardless whether I say anything or not. (This is why doujins exist.)
But if it came down to defamation of my name, or attempting to steal my characters then I'd have a problem. Otherwise, I just follow my policy of "if I don't like it, then I don't look, read or listen to it."
To answer the original question, yes, I would support their creative freedom to create.
