after going back and forth on it, I settled on my real name and a logo. that way you know it is me but the focus is the stories.

maybe rebrand instead of deleting? make them the pages of the author of your story or a greater book "company" instead.

I already went to cons to sell my artwork or fanzines, so I've already showed my face but I try to make the focus of my socials my art instead of pictures (As well, I don't like taking photos).

I use a penname mostly because it's way shorter than my real name, but "Lenai" is an anagram of my real name.

I've already drawn myself in extras in my comic as... well, myself.

Not because I want fame or anything like that, but because it was natural for me? idk. My nickname on socialmedia have always been ccmatta that are my initials + surname, so yeah. it was just natural to say my full name. But obviously I want people to focus on my work and not on myself, who am I, I'm not even a pretty insta girl to be getting attention xDD And I don't usually post photos of myself on social media, sometimes on instagram's stories because yeah.

My screen name/persona is literally Scarlet Cryptid for a reason: I do NOT want to be the face of my brand. I don't want people to think of me when they talk about my comic/art. I don't want people to form weird, icky parasocial relationships with whatever carefully curated version of myself I'd have to put forward for marketing.

Just... read and enjoy the comic, folks. Pay no mind to the elusive artist behind the screen.

For my current comic I plan on doing an epilogue that's kinda open given the nature of the story, but for the most part I'm going to stay anonymous. I don't want to show my face or anything, I like my privacy. Plus I want people to focus on my comic while being the faceless shadow working in the background.

If I was starting my career now, not like... fifteen years ago, I would go anonymous, work under an alias and be a pure webcomics person.

BUT because of when and how I started out, back in the mid-late 00s, in print stuff, leaning on being one of the few illustrators in a rural area and doing a lot of workshops in schools and libraries and the like, it's kind of out there now, because I work under my own name and I've appeared at plenty of events. It's not ideal for somebody with dismorphia issues, but it's what I've got.

So you'll usually see me going under "Kate Holden" on my work, and when I draw myself, it's a fairly accurate approximation of what I actually look like, just heavilly simplified:

Remain anonymous, at least at the beginning. I don't really tell anyone my real name online and pictures of me are veeery rare in general I'd like people to focus on my story and not on me. I've also never really cared about who wrote my favourite books so I guess I'm kind of continuing my "the author isn't that important"-mindset
I have a cat as a mascot and most people are fine with calling me Cat, so I think that's working out well for me so far
If my novels ever get more popular, I'd probably show my face because I'm bad at keeping secrets, but even if the whole world knew my name, I'd still use Cat as my name when I'm acting as an author and not boring real me

I will go on tour with my comic book when it gets published, I will draw, sign the books and I will also perform as a musician in the comic

I myself certainly don't mind showing my face - I just feel like I can represent myself sooo much better with a drawing, where I have full control (and also directly shows off what I'm like as an artist).

I have no active preference from anonymity, and if people do happen to find me interesting as a person for any reason, I think that'll drive them to my work more instead of distracting them from my work, and I'm certainly not above taking advantage of that

I'd rather have some sort of mascot character representing me, and I'm pretty sure I can say the same for our artist.
