Would you rather be faster at producing your comic, or have better quality?

Depends on what kind of art you're talking about. But, a true master can work both high quality AND quick speeds, so hey. Either one is always good to me!

Good enough and fast enough is the best option.

Your speed will increase every time you level up your skills.
So you should mainly focus on the quality first, because it would help you level up faster.

I like to be faster when working on comics. If I wanted high quality art I'd just make an illustration. ʅ(◔౪◔ ) ʃ
I think maintaining a passable quality and consistent speed is most important. Sometimes I look back and see where I could have put in more effort, but at the end of the day I know I'm better off spending that time on a cover or promotional image rather than a panel someone's going to glance at for 0.5 seconds.

I feel like I can almost always get results of a quality I'm satisfied with given that I'm willing to spend enough time on it... but sometimes that means spending ridiculously long on things, which is too inefficient (and demotivating)

Speed for me! My quality has a long way to go too, but if I were to magically increase one aspect right this instant out would be speed hands down. Faster pages means you can burn through stories faster, and make the updates better for your readers (more content, or more updates per week).

Quality please. I find speed training easier than advancing in quality, so if I could just get an automatic magical enhancement in quality, I can gradually work up to faster production.

If my art were already at a professional level, I would choose speed though, so I could work on more projects simultaneously. But I still have a lot of improvements to make.

If I were drawing a gag-a-day comic, I would choose speed. Right now, I am writing prose and game rules, so quality is the priority. It mostly depends on the project.

Art: faster. Not just to speed up my comic, but also for my health! If I could draw twice as fast, I could cut down my drawing time a little (and still increase my output). My shoulder would really benefit from that.

Right now I wish I was faster at drawing my comic. I went on hiatus because trying to churn out a page once a week was just too much for me, and I wish it wasn't that way. I could get so much more done!

I want to improve the quality of my comic. Speed comes from doing things over and over just like art improvement. I still find speed to be easier to improve, if I stop studying and trying new things. My art doesn't easily improve just by slowing down. It takes not only slowing down, but a lot of concentration to improve my art. Speed eventually comes naturally. I've also noticed that there are content creators that have amazing art work and long time periods between uploads get more views than creators with art work that could be considered not as good that upload three times as often.

Don't these two go hand in hand? The better you get at your craft, the faster you'll become. Unless you're constantly creating things you're not used to.

I came here to say this. I feel like it's a big misconception that focusing on quality means you'll only get slower and slower. It's only slower at the start while you're learning. Do it enough and you can pump out highly rendered images very fast just from memory. I mean, just look at environmental concept artists who can paint a very convincing (and gorgeous) landscape in under 30mins. They just have the knowledge and practice behind them to bash it out fast. At that point you're no longer thinking about it, it's just a feeling because it's so deeply embedded.

I'd agree that it's best to take your time with this--this would come in the form of plotting out the entirety of your story beforehand as well as taking a measured pace while storyboarding/planning chapters.

I’m currently working full time in comics and I will always always always say speed for a couple reasons.

1.) Speed is the way into a following. I’m sure there are outliers but for 99% of people this remains true. When I was updating my comic 4 pages a day every weekday I was getting followers in the hundreds everyday without fail. Early on when I was still trying to get my footing it was really clear to see how speed had an impact on audience growth.

2.) When you work fast, you work more and you end up learning along the way how to get the most quality in the shortest amount of time because you’re technically just getting more PRACTICE in. Sure, my comics aren’t as 100% perfect as I would like them to be but the audience doesn’t really care as long as they’re getting the content they want and they don’t know what MY idea of perfect is. And now I have a big graphic novel project with a publisher I love that I’m taking my actually time on and it’s easily the best looking comic I’ve ever done and it’s because I got the amount of practice I got.

This topic is not really suitable for new artists. I think I should point out a few things.

As a beginner, quality is more important.
You need to learn how to practice first before you can draw fast. Learn how to walk properly before you can run.

As a student, both is important at the same time. Now you learn how to deal with deadline.
You need to learn how to balance your art quality and finalize your project for a fixed period of time.

As a professional artist, speed is more important.
No matter how fast you draw at this point, your quality is always at the acceptable level.

The diffirent between a professional and a beginner is at the art quality, because anyone can draw fast.

I'd like to go faster while maintaining my current quality. I think I'm pretty happy with my chibi/simple style, but to be able to speed up a bit would be nice. I really want to create a buffer for my comic

Other comics that I'm working on however, I'd be willing to sacrifice speed for quality... I have high standards for myself that I can't bring myself to let go of; things just look so nice when I take my time!
