I really want to disagree with this, but I can't because I get it. I have a reputation in my family for being a b*tch just because I prefer to tell people when they're saying and doing things that don't make sense. =(
Accepting when you're wrong and changing for the better is a skill that has to be learned...and some people never bother with it.
Uh, well, in general (a) people pay for the degrees, not for the education and (b) school is actually a terrible place for learning, like 90% of the time. =/
There's a reason you're more likely to remember, say, useless skills that only help you in video games: you take time out to find something by your own volition, and practice it at your own pace in ways that are relevant to you. That kind of environment is conducive to learning. Frantically memorizing half a textbook of information that goes slightly over your head and that you'll never use again after 4 months is not.
All that is to say, don't be too hard on people who don't retain much from college (I'll be one of them in a couple years). Odds are, it's really not their fault...
