Would you rather your comic be adapted into a TV series or a movie?

For Rooftop Bookshop? A show definately, I can't imagine making a comedy slice of life movie would be an easy endeavor. That and it is a bit episodic rather than one long running story.

For (Semi) Super... That might be better as a movie. There's more action to it (or at least there will be, I don't have too much of it up now haha)

I would rather turn my comics be turned into an animation, since that's how I see everything in the planning phase. Not so much to put on TV, but just as a for me thing. Nothing would make me come back from the dead faster than seeing my characters, and the environments actually move.

The only thing that sucks is that I have no idea where to start. I can do animation myself (have some experience with using Adobe Flash), but it would be fully traditional so I have no idea what paper to use and what not. Nor do I know where to start, or how to start for that big of a project, not to mention the requirement for voice actors and sound effects. Animation has a lot of stuff going into it.

I think swipe city is more suited to be a Tv show than a movie. but given it features physical punishment in places it's hard enough marketing it to this generation as a comic, i dont see it becoming a box office smasher. it would be pretty cool as long as like in the comic i get the role as the Mayor.

I feel like a movie would have to cut too much stuff out, and while the end result might be cool, it wouldn't really feel like the same story. That's how I feel about the Scott Pilgrim movie.

I think most people here would agree that a tv show would suit their comics better. Unless you have a short series, you're obviously going to want all of the details in your comic represented as a TV show. Also, if you have a longform comic, you'll definitely need the extra room to tell your story without condensing it. For me, Don't Be A Hero would definitely work as a TV series, since it's longform. I've got a large diverse cast of characters, and a movie just couldn't develop them enough in such a short time span. With a TV series, you can make as many episodes that you want, giving you all of the opportunity in the world to properly tell your story.

You make good points, releasing creative control is the biggest down fall to this scenario, no one wants their hard work to be ripped apart and pieced back together. And if you do, will you be comfortable relaying on other writers/artist? And even if you get the best of the best, as you pointed out the buget might now be there.
Though personally I would still bite the bullett, just to see how it all works out. (I am a glutton for punishment )

For mine a TV series would be the only possibility, mostly because there's no way a movie would have a long enough run time to fit everything into. Even for a TV series it would end up having to run long to fit everything in. Realistically though, it would be a miracle to actually get something adapted at all XD I would have it most likely animated since it's just not realistically grounded enough to really work with real life actors. I'd also stick with my personal style for animation ^^

Bet as a series it may work but I doubt they can get the action scenes I depict well unless its animated

I'd have two things i'd really really want. For Lalita at the end of the universe So EITHER a TV show, Ideally with two-three seasons and a epilogue movie animated by the amazing crew working on steven universe. (gotta love space and aliens).... OR a Animated movie by disney to look more closely to Big hero six and stuff. it would be GREAT. the animated movie would be almost an entirely different story. since i'd have to condense the webcomic down. buut it be great.

all my other stories would be tv shows. because thats how i actually write them. with episodes and seasons in mind.

Animated tv show for sure. Also, since it started out as a videogame I wouldn't mind seeing it end that way. The original idea was kind of a cross between borderlands, final fantasy, and zelda

mmmmmm i most likely would see my comic SPIRE get adapted into a multiple part movie (since its so long...something like how the hobbit trilogy was done.). i kind of imagine it being done in dreamworks-style cgi because of the drawing style and bright color use in the comic.

An impossible wish of mine is to direct an artsy indie drama live action film. I would probably do minor rewrites (like less slapping, less nonsensical humor).

An animated series would be cool, maybe in an animation style similar to what Bento Box does. However, I don't know who the hell the target audience will be. It would either have to be seriously toned down for kids or changed to make it more appealing to adults. I would honestly prefer if it was for adult because there are some parts that would REALLY upset parents, like even if things were changed, I can still see someone digging up the source comic and getting really upset.

TV series. The comic itself as it is would be suited better for something like a gag-based cartoon series, since it's, well, a gag series without one continous plot.
A movie... only if you made an own original story from it, haha.

And seeing my characters in a game would also be really cool Would have to be its own original story though.

@WakaXO well even more so, nobody wants to sign away the movie/TV/licensing rights for one big lump sum, and then Hollywood may make millions in excess of what you got. Then in other cases it's a matter of your characters- that you've worked on for years, and know almost intimately are not being represented the way you designed them to be. Some creators may not care, while others do...

And this is my main reason for wanting to keep rights to my own series/IPs/whatever. I'm usually VERY attached to my own characters, worlds ect. and would hate to just "give them away" especially if they could just do whatever they wanted with them afterwards...
