First the community was angered because bigger (premium) Tapas writers were allowed to participate (this went so far as making Tapas implement a rule change along the way to eliminate these writers from the community pick), and now that anger is directed towards a new writer who doesn't have many subscribers from the website itself, but whose friends and family gave him a helping hand.
I sincerely don't think any of us would want to be eliminated from becoming premium/winning because we were lucky enough to have friends who didn't mind voting, nor would we appreciate people saying it's unfair when they put time into their novel and entered like everyone else did. (I'm writing this under the assumption that the subscribers were not bots since Tapas seems to have double-checked.)
Although I completely understand where you are all coming from—my story was also disqualified because of said sudden rule change after I'd spent weeks planning ahead for the contest—it makes me sad to see that a community which is usually so positive is trying to eliminate another contestant who might have really earned their place. If it were millions of one sub accounts it would be a bit strange, but less than two hundred people is completely possible if you have a few followers outside of Tapas;if they had truly wanted to cheat, I don't think they would be seventh place in the final sub-ranking.
There was an organization issue this time around—we're all human, we make mistakes, and I'm sure Tapas will take our feedback into account when organizing the next Camp. I don't think anyone is in the right or wrong here, and it's clear that many are disappointed, but in either case we should really stop villainizing a poor contestant who just wanted a shot at winning and asked their friends to vote for them; if the new winner is reading these posts, it must be very hurtful for them.
