Needless to say, I'm kinda disappointed in myself.
Why? Because I haven't been writing that much lately...and I think I'm becoming way too overconfident with myself. I don't know...I have that feeling that everything will collapse on me in one fell swoop.
Anyways...I haven't written anything new JUST yet (I got an idea from 10Cent, and after reading TATWD by John Green, there's more stuff in my head), and the threat of NaNoWriMo is still hovering around my head.
Don't forget the quarterly exams starting next week.

I did it once, I did pull it off, but I had to take a week's vacay to make up for how busy I was between my day job and other things I was involved in at the time.

Even if you fall short, that's OK. Just so long as you really sweat at it.

and @williamjbowles Do you find NaNo hard? I decided to go and try it but it seems a lot to do in a month. My book Counting Shadows (it's now on Tapas) is about 55000 words and it took me over a year to write... But want to give it a try plus might have actually time to do so. I just postpone my other project...

It can be done and around a job too but you really can't do much else. I think I aimed for 1700 words a day.

I wrote it in pencil which was some extra work because I had to count the words by hand after each page. Don't recommend doing that.

Things are pretty good on my end. I started my first Tapas novel that I work on alongside my comic, which is a sports drama story about 1920s women's boxing. I love weirdly specific sports stories so I'm having a grand time. There's a lot of opportunities to explore social issues in a fun and unique way with a 1920s USA setting and it's a blast.
I get a lot more time to write than I used to, but sadly less time to draw. That's just the nature of my new day job.

You're right, it is a lot to write in one month, and it is hard to do. I've done NaNo several years now, and I've never the reached 50k goal.
However, I did get a lot written each time, and that's what really counts. It doesn't really matter if you hit 50k or not-- the point is to encourage and inspire writing.
Of course your 55k word story took over a year to write. A lot of that time is spent editing, rereading, and revising the story. NaNo is all about word count. Just get words on to the page. It's a time when you don't have to fret and fuss over getting the exact right word for that one scene, which is hugely liberating to many writers-- especially perfectionists like myself : )

I would recommend participating even if you know you can't get to 50k. It's one of those 'it's about the journey not the destination' situations.

How is writing going? Is anyone doing NaNoWriMo?

This weekend, I told myself I'm going to write 5K words, so I'm working on that right now. Also, my book is complete, and I'm looking for any beta readers so I can work on the rewrite.

I'm really pleased with myself right now. I've got a project in the works that I've had writer's block on for three months now. Yesterday, I finally sat down and pushed past it. I managed to get three whole chapters written!

I feel so motivated now!

Thanks for the topic! I'm currently trying to write my novel as fast as I can, which means "ehhh, pretty slow." I'd like to participate in Nanowrimo, but every year I find myself wishing it was in a different month - November always gets busy for students.

I'm new to Tapas as a creator (been a reader for years), and frankly it's a little intimidating. I've submitted a few things to Vocal and some magazines that feature short stories, but there's less stress there as I don't have to flounder for subscribers and the like.

I am determined to stick with it however, and plan to share two more series: one sci-fi with a cyberpunk setting, the other high fantasy. My current story is Care Killed the Cat, urban fantasy I am admittedly using to test the waters.

Nearly ironed out arc 2's plot beats for my comic - the storyline should start around next May so got plenty of time, but I like to keep ahead especially when I'll be juggling a few POVs for this one. I'm finding though that updating at 3 pages a week is great because you can come up with new stuff on the fly, or identify problems by tackling the story a few chunks at a time. This approach has already led to me adding 6 or so pages of extra material to the first fight for better pacing.

Aside from that, juggling a few more random ideas for stories to do after the main project finishes - one shots/short miniseries/maybe even a few prequel/spinoff chapters.

They say never start with your pet project, and they're right. But I also didn't have any other ideas that were good enough, so I'm still glad I went with it.
