Oh, I've never read those ones (besides some Harry Potter). I'll have to look into them!
I write mostly the same! I've also never read Light Novels, do you have any you would suggest?
YA are usually coming-of-age type stories, with the protagonist being 14-18!
I love fantasy! I've never been able to get into Horror, though.
Harry Potter has a lot of middle grade crossover, much like the Percy Jackson series. Both are on the lower end of the YA spectrum. Both have coming of age elements, but length, protagonists age, and how mature scenes are also play into where a book would be categorized.
I LOVE Greek Mythology! The Percy Jackson series was one of my favorites to read in middle school.
I've tried so hard to get into reading contemporary YA, but I just can't! If I do read any sort of contemporary, it's usually mystery / thriller. And Maggie Stiefvater is a fantastic author!
New Adult is a bit newer within the industry. It doesn't have shelf space in most libraries or book stories, so a lot of NA gets thrown into the upper end of YA. Mostly, New Adult is the area that doesn't quite fit YA for maturity and age, but doesn't quite fit adult, either. It's doing fairly well in Indie publishing, which is really exciting.
