I went all out on my shading for a recent batch of pages, so I thought it would be interesting to see what that compares to the page unshaded.

I am unable to do only flat colours with my art, it just doesn't look as good :sweat_02: And shading is fun :hype_01:

I like the shaded version :]

I am quite literally unable to do only flat colours with my art, becuase my colouring process is not "flats + shading"; these days my brain refuses to cooperate with the concept of 'flats' because it means deciding on an arbitrary lighting level which is the 'default' XD

Ah, shading, the bane of my existence :cry_01: it's one of the things I'm always the most anxious about because I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing 99,9% of the time.

But since my panels would look ugly AF without it...

...I just HAVE to do it :cry_swag:

The panel above is the result of my most recent experiments with "mixed flat shading", as I call it. I have this terrible habit of soft shading/rendering EVERYTHING I do, but since my wrist wasn't very happy with it... I'm trying to simplify. I'm still not confident enough to go into full flat shading mode (also because I feel the difference with my previous pages would be too jarring), but so far this looks like a compromise that can work :hype_01:

oooh I get what you mean! if I have to paint, i dont like flats that much, but for my comic I think it's quicker... and as I add a looooot of details I dont need to give painting that importance; I use the coloring to add some magic to the comic and to define better Hell's atmosphere

Sometimes I feel like the flat colors are better off not being shaded. But hey, it looks fine. Honestly this is my first comic so it's kind of hard for me to say much about my work. After all, it's mostly just cel shading. Maybe I should look into putting more details on the background, especially in the line work. Lots of room for improvements. xD
