For my next web comic I plan on utilizing the mobile/webtoon format. I wrote a small paragraph about my MC's, Akina's, feelings, but didn't have anywhere to put it in the story without it being unnatural so I decided to turn it into a trailer/teaser/preview practice comic.

Some things I learned from the short experience:

  • Do Not make one large document! Unless you have a high tech super computer, you will experience lag. Plus, most sites make you break it up anyways due to file size and will stack them for you. I'd say it's fine for rough sketches so you can map out the flow of the episode.

  • Making/finding assets is annoying and tedious, but will save you time in the long run. Especially in a school setting with textbooks, homework, essays, etc. Unfortunately due to my character designs, I'll have to make my own mob assets too.

I'd really appreciate it if you check it out and let me know what you think so I can do a better job in the future. If you can read it on a mobile device, that would be even better. Since it's one long episode (appx. 20 panels) you'll have to zoom in to fit your screen. Let me know if you have any issues. You may have to download it

Some things I'm particularly concerned about:

  • Does it have a toxic takeaway? The intended idea is that Akina has become better at being independent, but also bottles her problems since she's afraid she'll become needy again and no one will like her. But I'm worried that people might think it's about enabling bad behavior.
  • Is the art too simple? I want to make it easy on myself, but I worry it may be too plain.
  • Improvements on sfx? I'm not particularly good at that
  • Is the spacing bad? I know lots of webtoon have a ton of empty space between panels, but I'm not sure how much is too much/little

Thanks in advance for your time!

I think the message and art are both good. One thing I might suggest, and it's not super important, but when there's nothing going on in the background you can make it a color gradient instead of having it be white or grey. Just makes things more energetic.

I dont think its a "toxic takeaway." Besides, people are complex and deals with issues in multifaceted ways.
I think the art looks good. It's simplistic, but in a way that's intentional enough for it to be a style. If you do want more complexity, use gradient like theyrebothakilogram suggested, or add more shadows and shadings.
sfx looks good. If you want to experiment, you could try rotating the sfx so that it's not perfectly horizontal.

You could definitely play more with spacing. Im not the best with scroll format, but spacing should be use to control readers' pacing-- i.e to show time passing, add dramatic pauses, or reveal new info. For example, the panel where she falls could have more space so readers can linger more on her thought
