Hey there! For the peeps who care enough to read this post, I have a plot idea that I may be considering to either turn into a webtoon or an animated series (Still don’t know at the moment XD).

Alright, here’s the gist of the plot:

Basically, a fictional city located in Ontario, Canada (Not gonna name it here because, reasons) is experiencing a sudden spike in crime. The psychology community within this city has no idea why all this is happening. However, they have found a link between the high rate in crime and a new psychological phenomenon: many of these cases are caused by those who were experiencing dreams of a woman in a red dress appearing in a black void. Nicknaming it “The Red Woman Panic”, they have observed that the more dreams people have of this woman, the more psychologically damaged they become.

For a more detailed explanation of this “psychological damage” here’s how it progresses (I’m going to be using “Jason” as an example for the sake of simplicity):

  • Stage 1: For his entire life, Jason has always had a small appetite. For about a week, not much happens to Jason. However, after that, he’s beginning to feel happier and more excited than usual. Then out of nowhere, Jason is experiencing a “buzz” for about a day or two, (A similar feeling someone would get when they’re just beginning to get drunk). During that period, he’s having a huge feast at a family gathering. He is beginning to enjoy having big meals.

  • Stage 2: Jason is starting to increase his portion sizes of his diet. Seeing him eat more, his family is happy about the fact that he is getting more nutrition to increase his strength. However, this joy doesn’t last long. Jason starts to snack at random times of the day (Noon, afternoon, midnight, early morning, etc.). His snacking portions are also increasing (Ex: From ½ of a cucumber to 1-2 cans of Pringles). Jason is starting to get overweight.

  • Stage 3: Jason’s eating habits are getting worse. His snacks now consist of 3 course meals. He’s eating at almost every hour of the day. Jason is now obese. His family is now really worried about his health.

  • Stage 4: Jason’s eating habits have now taken over his life. He cannot go through a second of a day without obsessing about food. He is so obese that he can’t even move. His family is now panicking about his state. Now, Jason has two choices: either end his life to stop all this crap, or let his obsession kill him. He goes with the latter option.

The symptoms of this phenomenon usually progresses within 3-4 months and the obsessions could be anything (Sleeping, screwing, stealing, whatever.)

The story is going to be a psychological horror with some elements from Japanese, Korean, Western and Lovecraftian horror and will be following three protagonists:

  • A therapist (Has patients who are struggling with the “Red Woman” phenomenon)
  • A police detective (Investigating crimes whose criminals are linked with the phenomenon)
  • A lawyer (Is working on-behalf of either the victims or the accused of the crimes that are linked with the “Red Woman Panic”)

For a bit of “freshness”, some of the crimes being subjected in each chapter/episode of the series may not have a link with the phenomenon but will hint at why and how the “Red Woman Panic” came into existence in the first place. Sometimes, there might even be an episode/chapter that may be considered as filler, but might be relevant to the plot if you pay close attention to the little details.

Oh boy, sorry for making such a long post!

I kinda need some critiques for my idea. It would also be cool if you guys could, you know, give me some tips and tricks on to how to pull off a horror plot effectively.

Thank you for taking the time to read my TED-Talk. Later :3

Have your main character be the villain. It would be the plot twist no one would expect.

Kind of like the idea. Although I think that the role would work better if the villain is someone that 1 or all three characters personally know.

But thank you for your feedback :3

Sounds fun. Do it. The Jason example reminds me of the short story "we ate the children last"

I just wanted to say this idea sounds really cool~. It has the potential to go in so many interesting directions...

If you feel the need to write this story, do it!
I like the concept ^_^
