Maybe check out writing prompts on Twitter, Instagram, or Pinterest? Something is bound to catch your eye and you’ll know when inspiration hits otherwise, maybe look around for some character inspiration and make some character sheets and try writing about them? Try writing a 2k-5k short story to get back into the writing mindset

• A buddy cop movie between a half-demon kindergarten teacher and her giant best friend who is superchill as they battle supernatural forces in their city.

• A love letter from the narrator recounting their love story with the reader.

• The Keebler elves out for revenge

• A story about two completely opposite brothers teaming up together to solve crime.

But @kmlangleyauthor has a solid point. Pinterest has a lot of great prompt ideas.

Obviously you can't do this much anymore but sometimes if I felt like I didn't have any ideas I would go to a local coffee shop, sit out on the balcony and start making mini-stories about the people walking by. Never failed sometimes I came up with some terrific stuff.

One of my short stories came to me when I witnessed a poor store clerk nodding politely to a woman that was giving her life story to the poor thing. She just wanted to ring up her potatoes but the woman didn't stop. that story became the shopkeeper.

Finding inspiration in real life is one of my favorite methods for writing, and I think your advice works well even if watching from a distance.

If you've got a window that you can see people walking by use that.

One of the most popular stories I wrote for the audio drama company I worked for came about one morning while I was having breakfast looking out my window. I saw four people on the corners of the crosswalk down the street. I thought about it, put all four in the same apartment building and with the same smarmy maintenance guy. He gets murdered and each one of them has a good reason to do the deed, and the ability/skill. Question is, which one "done it."

Write hard / write true.

Another great help is music. I've written countless scenes that were inspired by just a simple line of a song. Pick something more flowery, feel what sticks out to you. I've been feeling this song for a while:

@CheetahPlays the "best" ideas, I have found, are the ones that will continuely spark your interest. I like to start out with a basic notion or a "what if" question and work from there. "What if?" is a great question to keep inspiration coming.

A really lazy cursed item and a narcoleptic hero with a very anxious demon king wondering why the realms haven't sent anyone yet.

You create a character and give him a very detailed personality, you know his parents, how the character grew up,
where he works, where he lives right now, what he likes to eat, drink and watch on the tv, music, favorite snack, love life,
hobbies. Everything you can imagine.
Let´s the name same Adam & Eve
Maybe that character lives together with a partner, do the same for the partner.
There are unlimited ideas that you can create just with this situation.
Give them extreme character traits.

Adam is super jealous and insecure.
A new neighbour (Paul) moves into the apartment same floor.

From that point it can develop in unlimited branches.
Adam can start stalking Paul and finds out a dark secret.
Adam can start stalking Paul and kills him in an accident
and has to hide his body.
or
Eve meets Paul and he starts stalking her and then
he kills Eve or Eve kills him or Adam and Paul kill Paul.
or
Eve meets Paul finds him very cute but Paul falls in love
with Adam, Eve kills them both
and so on.

You can make up plenty of ideas and it will get easier the better you
know your characters. Eve can be choleric and violent. Paul is homosexual. Adam
is insecure or Paul is inscecure, Adam & Eve are both violent

SciFi author Robert Heinlein gave away 26 story ideas to fellow writer Theodore Sturgeon when the latter had run out of ideas & onto a bit of hard times. As far as I know, not all those ideas ever made it into stories. Perhaps some folks here might like to take a crack at some of them.
