Hello~. I'm in the middle of writing a sequel novel that looks like it's going to focus on a developing romance between two principal characters.
I've never really done this before...of course, I've written 'romance' as something that exists as a concept in a story, and I've even written 'budding romance', when two characters start learning to like each other.
This, however, is more like a 'flowering romance', where two characters who clearly already like each other start to realize just how much...and it's scary
I've already pushed past the biggest hurdle, which was learning to write mushy dialogue and 'stage directions' without getting embarrassed and hesitating indefinitely...if any other ace writers out there are interested, I will be happy to explain my 'stop cringing and WRITE' methodology. ^^
Now I feel I should take the next step and start thinking about how to write romance stylistically...I guess, beyond just having the relevant partners allow themselves to fall in love by overcoming their personal shortcomings (yes, I'm using character development as a crutch...and no one will ever know~)
Like, what is formulaic in this genre of writing, and what isn't? What do romance readers expect, and what do they want?
And most importantly, h-how do you end a story like this? ^^;; With a confession, with a kiss?? If you did neither of those things, would it still be satisfactory?? I'm very undecided on how I should try to 'confirm' this relationship...
