I know it’s a minor issue and maybe it’s just a me thing but is anyone else annoyed by those who don’t read what the actual post and or thread is saying.

For example I did a share your favorites promotion where in the text I said that it couldn’t be your own work and others did not pay attention.

Seriously

Damned near every thread in this forum devolves into a promotions thread because people start posting their links.

Unless the title or text actually says “post up your stuff” I don’t.

I wouldn't call it basic comprehension if the average person don't even have it. I'd probably word it as reading comprehension.

In my opinion this is a skill in itself because everybody has their own way of interpreting a phrase or word. Which leads to people hearing what they want to hear.

Like if I say "I want to hire an assistant for a project" people will interpret this as "I want to have a partner for a project." Those two are not the same thing. And I come to the conclusion that the average person does not have good reading comprehension.

I'd keep an open mind though that this is the average person.

I know, right! I take the time and effort to read whatever the thread's asking you to do and then I see others blatantly disregard it and then I ask myself why!

It's so annoying!

It's very frustrating when it's obvious people haven't read your post. I'm lucky enough to have not experienced it here (yet...) but the same problem ended up ruining my enjoyment of reddit. The worst thing is when you try to point out "hey, maybe read what I wrote before making your judgements" you often get treated like you're the rude one. My sympathies to you, it really drives me up the wall.

Oddly enough, I feel like this problem has actually gotten a LOT better on this forum over time. ^^; When I first got here, people would regularly just read whatever title you wrote and immediately try to respond to the thread without paying attention to any details in the OP...and then accuse you of being manipulative when they ended up misunderstanding what the thread was for. Fun times~

Fortunately, that doesn't happen so much anymore...although even if it did, I'm kind of over it. =P I've had so many "discussions" with people who can't even be bothered to pay attention to what they're saying to you, let alone what you're saying to them, it's become part of my baseline expectations when interacting online.

I speak mostly Japanese but I think its matters how you write it. Sometimes I do take it personally when no one answers. I guess I just have to figure out what I'm doing first.

Yes  People who don't read on an actual forum dedicated to writing. How funny and annoying.

Bruh. I feel you. I had this happen on my comic. A reader basically didn't read the episode... and then commented something that accused me of some political thing they thought I was saying?? It was really weird. So I replied to them, basically reiterating what literally happened within the 5 lines of dialogue they managed to skip over and come to the conclusion they did. bruhhhh

Also, for the forums in particular, if I do not understand what someone is getting at--I usually just ask for clarification! It's a simple measure to take if I'm not getting what the post's rules are or something. I wish people did that more. Questions are better than ignorance imo.

It isn't just forums. It's everywhere. Promoting here doesn't really do anything, yet people are grasping and trying regardless. The more they post, the more subs they'll get, right? Not realizing failing to properly answer probably won't sway people and makes them look foolish.
But who's really shocked, like I said, it's a plague everywhere. I can explain something word for word in a comic panel and people somehow still miss it and question. My expectations lower on the daily, and truly it's sad. Very annoying, though, I agree.

@Calculus_Homework Fr, bro. There's almost nothing that peeves me more than readers who draw conclusions that are so off base they get fouled out. Especially when those exact points have already been contradicted numerous times in the narrative! It's like, bruh! What are even reading?!

Just for clarification, this hasn't happened with my story yet, but I noticed it quite a lot back when I bothered reading premium novels. I also personally choose not to respond or post comments on my own chapters, just because I can never know what might set someone off and I like to avoid annoyance and stress as much as humanly possible.
