I'm on there too, mostly just watch Neil Gaiman being wholesome and other artists friends. It seems to be more well known in Europe because we didn't get all the Threads debacle until a couple of weeks ago and not many people seem to like the idea of more Facebook (also for some reason instagram is advertising threads to me by showing me "tweets" of people desperately trying to get their algorithm go stop showing them far right hate speech and just generally not having a good time on there? Weird). Anyway, Bluesky seems more chill.
had it for a while thanks to someone here sharing a code. i dont really use it much save for checking in on folks who've left twitter to go there but other than that it just kinda sits there
i do have some codes if people need them so folks are welcome to reach out if theyre interested
im vibrantfox on there too
I've had like 5 invites that I've tried to give away to no success. I'd just drop them here but, y'know, bots.
I will warn you: The gay dudes and the sex-based furries there got no fucking chill so expect a lot of erections with your morning coffee if you dare follow the What's Popular feeds.
To be clear- I still prefer that to the Matt Walsh/ Elon Musk/ Ian Cheong style shit for brains that are going to flood the place once it opens to everyone.
Oh....Ah fuck. Are there content filters?
Agreed. I have an nsfw art account where Im only for posting, and because of that, most of the recommended posts come from far right twitter people. I like how Elon's attempt at adding more free speech to the platform invited these extremists to spew their garbage. He's somehow made twitter worse than it was before him
I have been hoping to trying out Bluesky eventually. Alas, I'm kinda waiting for it to kinda go public and ready to move off of Twitter. I'm not really active on it anyway. From what I'm hearing here, Bluesky looks to be a lot better than Threads where I agree, IG is really weird promoting it where there is so much "Hate speech". Like is this is how get people on your platform?
I'm on the sky site...been there since July.
@NellieVP318 While [some] folks are trying to be a lot better, there is still some of the mess there that goes on at almost every social media sites.
@KennethLopezJr921 I'm linked to some folks that post NSFW art there...
I have some codes as well.
The only issue I would say right now with the site is that since it's still relatively new, it's hard to drum up people to look at your work/art or follow you on your spaces like Patreon and ko-fi...
this was pretty much his intent though and he never really attempted to hide it either especially since you can see it in the way he's interacted with folks on the platform even before the buyout. like yeah there's the money thing too but he wouldnt have undone some of those permanent bans if he was opposed to it
Twitter has been dying a slow agonizing death...I barely go there on the weekdays now- only on weekends coz a lot of people who are affiliated/fans of the sports team I'm a fan of are there.
It's so bad now, I've dusted off my Tumblr account and now trying to resuscitate that.
Social media went to shit the minute corporations & capital venture stockholders put their hands in the cookie jar...
So I was honestly waiting for a public release before increasing my activity mainly coz only so many of my folks were able to get in via invites [and i genuinely forgot to share the ones i had ]
There's no denying that it is lacking some of those core features that we're used to on most social media but if anything it kinda gives Tumblr vibes [with the lack of/user driven algorithm] in a Twitter skin.
Feeds are definitely the best way to navigate and it seems like after some user feedback they've expanded on the content filter settings [somewhere under moderation or preferences but it's there] so now it's easier to block things like hate speech and nsfw content if you dont wanna see it. Not to mention there's also an option to turn of reposts/retweets and replies if you don't want to see those in your primary following feed either [also under moderation/settings]
As for Feeds I'd say that @wanderlingworld.bsky.social has some of the better art based tags/feeds tho there are others if you seek them out [just go with what you prefer]. I also just added the OnlyPosts feed to my pinned list which serves the same function as turning off replies and reposts on your home feed but it's its own thing [and my preference since I dont mind some reposts and can easily just block or mute the folks I dont wanna see]. Another I forgot to mention was the Media tab/feed by @jcsalterego.bsky.social. Not 100% sure if its already been implemented proper by the site or if it's just a feed only thing but it does put it on your profile so folks can see media only posts similar to the old twit layout,
Circling back to the user driven algo bit it has been highly recommended that folks be all the more vigilant about just blocking and moving on or reporting when it comes to inflammatory pots, bait and other troll behavior now that Bsky is open to the public since the only thing putting them on other peoples home feeds is engagement or other interactions [feeds may be one deterrent but literally the best thing is just avoiding that knee jerk reaction to dunk on some idiots bad faith take or whatever else]
Its still definitely getting it's legs now that everyone is mass migrating but once folks start finding their flocks again I think it can work well as a nice secondary [or primary depending on how activity pans out] place to post [tho they will still have to sort other functions ]
but like overall it's not looking so bad 🤷
