Here are some studies from today~ doing some color studies on top of my other figure studies.

@Iridescent_Bismuth Those look great! Hand studies and inking as well, got some nice line width variation going on, challenging stuff~

I love your colour studies! Colour is something I think I've always had a bit of a natural instinct for, but I definitely should do some colour studies!

I just got the brush pens last week. I'm pretty heavy handed, so I find it really hard to get good line variation, so thanks for telling me that I'm doing the right thing!
Sometimes I like to go over my quick studies with pen so that I can define the form from the gesture and get extra practice with organic curves and stuff. It gives me a bit more muscle memory for certain hand positions too. I'm terrible at hands though, so there's really not much muscle memory to be seen

And oh wow those are with a brush pen, that's really impressive then cause your lines look so steady and consistent. I have such shaky hands whenever I use brush pens, so i usually prefer smoother ball point pens or even fountain pens.

If I'm being honest, I mostly don't even use pens for traditional stuff any more. I prefer a nice soft coloured pencil.

I'm going through old art courses I bought now that I have the time as well as new ones. I'm sort of desperate to dive into several areas so I kind of have a "whatever I feel like today" approach, lol.

I'm practicing how to render by copying photographs. It's also a practice on colors, it took me around 2-3 hrs a piece tho I guess that's too much time? idk

Here's my studies from today, bit iffy cause i was on the phone with a friend the whole time lol.

@spudfuzz Those are some really nice bridges! i really like the one with the flag, has a lot of character to it. And bruh horses are so hard.

@sushy00 Ooh the cow girl one is nice! Lot of variety in styles for a single page~

@antimekii Those are pretty good! 2-3 hours for that is not too much time at all for copying a photo. That would take me 6+ hours probably since there's so much rendering involved. I recommend maybe trying to do more focused studies so you're not trying to process sooo much information in a single study.

So for example, just the bottles/glass in the first painting could be a whole material study, or just working with the portrait to understand skin tones and how light interacts with skin. Or for color just doing kinda loose paintings but focusing on getting the hue just right and observing the color relationships. I've found that these kind of studies are less intimidating and you can still get a lot of mileage out of them.

Thanks! I was actually trying to copy photographs with loose brushstrokes but kept going back to blend??? I guess I just really need more self-control and a stronger brush

@LCT_m_a_d There's no time like the present for making studies a regular thing!

@antimekii Ah yeah maybe try a really solid brush, or just hard round even, and keep the brush big and chunky. Also, it's helpful to just really zoom out and even squint your eyes a bit so you're really focusing on just the colors.

Here are today's studies~ the animation one took a bit longer than it should cause I was an idiot and started out drawing frame by frame (video is slow motion, oops), ended up being 42 drawings total lol.
