Here are my dailies for today. The usual exercises to warm up and then I followed it up with quick sketches of the skull.
The line exercise is always an important one for me, because in the event that I'm exhausted, I can rely on my body going into automatic mode to do the lines. This usually motivates me into drawing more and at least doing my basic daily exercises. If not, I can be happy that I drew one line
Drawing shapes is my bread and butter, I feel that so long as I practice these I'll be happy with the day and anything extra is a bonus. I get to practice my perspectives using horizon lines.
Heavily inspired by @Hodge and your 30 seconds sketches. I started doing some basic sketches for the skulls I draw. Sadly I ran out of time today and couldnt do more detail skulls.
I was able to do 2 line drawings of shin-hanga landscape paintings. I'll come back at a later date to colour them.
@nathanKmcwilliams congrats on joining in (the hardest part is usually starting) and doing exercises! Hodge is right that it is much more than thinking of it as 'extra' , for me there is something exciting about studying my favourite artists and recreating their work trying to puzzle solve how they created their piece. The poses you posted are brilliant, I'd sure like to see more of what exercises and studies you come up with!
@LCT_m_a_d Thank you, it is watercolour, along with studing the line art and perspective of shin-hanga woodblock prints I also try to colour them when I get a chance (it is a great way to get familiar with my water colours as well as practice colour theory). BTW your hand studies are always a delight to look at. Is that the same drawing at different stages or do you draw the same pose but for different lengths of time?
@Hodge Ha thanks! the lines are usually the activity that gets me in the "I've done this much, I may as well do some more art..." frame of mind. I'm always impressed with how you get so much done in a day, I'm envious. I would thoroughly be grateful for more time and energy to draw more detailed pieces of art but there never seems to be enough time in the day
I wasnt able to get as much done as I wanted today but I am happy I managed to do something
