I don't take commissions, but I am on lots of manga forums so I get some odd DMs here and there about potential comics. The one that sticks out to me was when a guy offered me a pretty decent price, so I got excited, then asked me to draw in scrolling vertical ( had never done at that point ), color ( had.. never done at that point ), and demanded I draw similar to wlop ( ?? ).

I wonder what manga forums you go to  I don't know any! XD

Also crazy that they demanded you drew like wlop, I mean that is pretty difficult.

Ugh, I hate those people. I've lost count on how many times people have done that to me over the years. The worst one I got was this guy that spammed my email and wrote me a long message on how I would be such a generous person if I were to do this favor and then later on in other emails he went off the rails and started cussing at me because I didn't reply yet. The scary part is he kept my email and has sent me emails at least once a year through different emails to "apologize" :expressionless:

Yikes! That person sounds intense. I'm really glad to say, that I've never had anybody do that to me.

I know that dude, he's also known as Murrlogic. I see around at times. He's a very strange dude. He seems to have a fetish for Rich Girls, deforestations, and wonder bread.

Basically some sort of furry and mermaid porno. I was shocked. They asked me to do a full colored comic in my style. For free. Not even offering me any royalties or anything just contacted me flat out and asked for free.

The first image they asked for me to draw was a full on porn panel. I dunno what made them think this

equalled out to yeah contact me for porn. Especially when I wasn't even advertising myself as open to art slavery for free.

I know I was like you want me to do a full on porn webtoon for free. When I am not even open to commissions just cause you like my soft art style.

That is... Um..
Do I say thank you to this? How do I respond>?
Like I feel like it's a compliment they like my art. But at the same time like what makes you think I or any stranger would want to draw out your kinks in vivid details? period. But then also like unpaid?

I dunno I don't understand.

Don't have any potential wild stories, but I have some pretty ridiculous commissions I have taken on that I really shouldn't have looking back.

  • Once did an entire animated meme for $30, while I'm not a great animator and I had to draw a dinosaur for it, which I'm not an expert in. (granted I'm a very lq animator, but that's still very low).
  • I once did a full body badge for... $10 I believe? And the customer complained that the hair shade was slightly off. (I don't know what to say, I draw traditionally and I don't own all the colours available in the world!)
  • And I used to take some ac commissions on amino, considering that digital currency is basically worthless, people asking you to draw full pieces for like... 10 AC is ridiculous.

To be fair, this was usually all my own pricing on platforms where art is dirt-cheap, so mostly dumb decisions on my part.

Very confusing now ain't it if I was to ever received that I would most defiantly want to earn like money for that and for a webtoon than the pay would defiantly be more because it takes time and its ... p##n..

I guess you could look at it as you've reached a certain level in your work to have that...
but then again... its just weird lol
Also if your work shows like what that person wants you to make then  and if it doesn't than they just have a weird mind

So in all

Wait you guys are getting commissions?

I've got only two people to commission me anything in the history of ever (Though I'm always5 opened for that, because who doesn't need money?), and the wildest of the two was this guy who commissioned me a render of a planet. The wild part is that their profile and avatar are profoundly religious and Christian. Like, to literal preaching levels. Yet they commissioned me a piece for their Star Trek fanfic. I'll admit, my mind was kind of blown. I didn't suspect that "sci-fi nerds" and "deeply religious" were population groups that could overlap in interests. Sci-fi rarely treats religion with respect.

Forums like MangaRaiders are the best for talking just about manga art! There are also a lot of forums centered around specific contests, but they're just as good if you're looking for advice/people in the same pod as you.

And yes lmao Imagine the power if I could draw like wlop

He wanted Homestuck but asked if I shipped Dirk and Kanaya. I said "I guess", he said I was a terrible person, and blocked me. AFTER we'd already done a piece.

Hmm... "Your awful"-proceed to waste an artist's time when they could have been drawing for someone else and maybe pay their rent with that money earned...

Yeah..you're awful...
People are dumb

It’s moments like these where fans within their fandoms baffle me. I really wish people would look at themselves and realize that their behavior like this isn’t okay, nor is it appreciated.

I’m sorry that happened to you. :pensive:

When I was volunteering at a con's art gallery years ago, making sure nobody messes with the artists' works. I happened to be looking at a Little Wooden Boy from show The Tick. Somebody comes and says he know the artist who made that and we chat a bit and he mentions that artist was willing to do anything for a commission. No request was too absurd or ridiculous as long they had the money.

He mentioned the weirdest and degenerate request this artist did was some dude wanted art of Sonic the Hedgehog having sex with a supermodel (I can't remember the name). The man who wanted this commission, requested every artist he knew but all of them rejected it except one. The artist who did it didn't care, it was money somebody was willing to pay for and it got done.

Lol the fact that they asked if the color would make a difference with pixel art. You literally have to do the same amount of work. $40 might get you a walking animation depending on the complexity if you're lucky.

Bringing this thread back literally to talk about something that just happened.

I've technically had commissions open for two years now, but haven't had any bites because I'm super small time and not actively seeking any work. I have TOS on my DeviantArt page and after how many years someone seemed interested. Now, if anyone's seen my artwork, they'd know most of it SFW, nary a piece of sexual or gory content in sight.

So, someone commented under my TOS asking for a commmish, specifically for DID. And I was like, DID? I'd have to be really creative to draw a mental illness and that's not even in my wheelhouse in the first place. This was on DA, and the people on there have a track record of..., you know. I kinda knew where this was going but I still asked anyway. They specified, and CW for abduction and restraint:

Summary

they wanted me to draw scene of a girl being kidnapped. And then further specified how they wanted her restrained and gave examples of how they would want her mouth gagged.

Now before they could specify further, I informed them that I would not be willing to draw that. It's not a knock against them, they can be into what they want and I don't have a place to speak on it. It's just, the TOS explained that I wouldn't draw fetishes and my gallery doesn't reflect me being willing to draw stuff like that so I don't know why they came to me. And this is all public, so I'm not releasing anything private. I asked if they wanted this convo to be in PMs but they ignored the question.

Funnily enough this wasn't the first time I've been requested to draw fetish or fetish-adjacent material, but this is the first someone seemed like they would pay for it. Those requests were also from DeviantArt. Go figure.

honestly same. I'm also waiting for that bread to drop.

Not really a commission, but a person on deviantart tried to pressure me into drawing nsfw art. See, I made this drawing with 2 versions: 1 where the character was fully clothed, and the other where her nudity was like, tastefully hidden behind elements of the environment and pose. This person tried to pressure me into removing those environment elements. They also called Bestia a furry. And said they hate furry adult content. Coming from a person whose entire gallery is like, 3d adult content of women with huge chests.

@Rhonder that is a masterpiece haha

and re: interesting art - it seems like a lot of kids' properties have a lot of that kind of art. Sonic, Pokemon, and i think My Little Pony suffer from it in particular?
