Yeah, you generally can use brands on your novel, but be mindful of the image you portrayed of the said brand on your story.
In some of the published novel I’ve read, there’s a page of brand acknowledgement for the brand that appear in the story, like McDonald’s, Prada, Nike, etc.
For comics though, I very very rarely encounter any real brand name on the art or dialogue. They mostly is a parody of a existing brand like WcDonal, Proda, Vike, etc. maybe because of the copyright image and logo are harder to bypass than just a mention on writing based story.
For novel though, there’s a line of what you should do to the borrowed brand name on your story. For example, one of your characters were having dinner on a fast food restaurant, and that restaurant was described as, well, pretty s*it in food and cleanliness. If that were the case, it would be best if you make your own fictional brand than having to deal with the aftermath in case some lawsuits (better to be safe than sorry) are to happen.
