I had way too much fun drawing this + trying out a new drawing style.

It's a bit rushed. If I had time, I would probably play around with color schemes more because something about this looks a bit off. Especially the tail.

summary

Mine was based off of korean dragon (yong). The dress, sash, shoes, overlapping neckline, and norigae accessories were all from hanbok, so the silhouette is a bit different than the original cupcake silhouette. The hair is inspired by joseon noblewomen hairstyles and (unintentionally) sailor moon.

I don't think western dragons have dragon pearls, but I added one in her wand/staff. Western dragons also have wings but korean dragons don't so I took them out (I thought it might look too complex with them anyway). The horns of both yong and imugi are usually thicker and less like branching antlers so that's what I went with.

I think it's up to you. Most people took elements from the original and used them as a base for a new design.

I used a similar skin tone, hair color, stockings, and sleeves just because I liked the way they looked.

Here's mine.
I went with a strange mix of a kimono-tutu with feathers-like things.
I had fun with it, long time I didn't draw a cute character. For the colors I totally went with "creamy-mango-white-chocolate-and-hints-of-raspberries" because the simple thought of it makes me craving fruity cakes and her original design dress makes me think of a delicious puffy cake.
The flower patterns on her dress are peonies (they look like roses because I dunno how to draw them XD).
Also her staff became kind of a naginata... but maybe I should have made a bigger blade and more stylised because it just looks like a regular spear? HMMMMMM.
edit : I changed the blade. It looks more like a naginata now

Also I ended with a ginormous picture size, so get some close up on few things.
