I think the second one is far and away the better one. The emphasis on saturated color and contrast instead of just * darkness * makes the image easier to read while still selling the spooky vibe.
Agreed, the second one seems more stylized and fits the cartoonish style with colors. The first one seems like you're mashing a cartoon with realistic lighting, when cartoons are supposed to have a more vibrant and exaggerated feel.
