Hi!!!

I'm a writer who semi sucks at drawing, but I'm not giving up! Having started drawing this year I've come to appreciate art even more.

I've this idea to make a random comic; like really random and not just content, but of artists and or writers with idea.
I'd like a few artist to join up to help and...
Any writers with small ideas that is just a "random" thought and you hope to see it realized are welcome
Of course I'd like for us to get along well so if interested can mail me at melindemari@gmail.com with a short description of who you are as well as send me links to your art and or your ideas either through the email or here on the forum.
And when you're on the "team", you'll have access to the Drive I'll set up for this collaboration.

So here's how I hope this to work:

Writer has an idea (1-2 page comedy or something cute...) an artist then who is interested will respond and once drawn it's posted on Tapas in my "randomness comic"
In the pages that is done by other writers and artist your names will be the sole names to appear in the chapter description part and the comic page and will also then be used as advertisement to go check out your other novels/comics on the site.
Yes my Randomness will also be usable to promote your art, but in a creative and "story" detailed way!
I've no objection to any sorts of content, so long as it's reader friendly (I don't want to put up any "mature content filters" up if can avoid it)

It's "unpaid", but I'm always willing to help throw ideas to your side or give some feedback on your work(s) or help out at times with the bits and pieces that I can (some editing? you like my drawings? I might be able to draw something for you...)

I'll keep the topic open up until the beginning of November.

Here's the Comic only a "welcoming Page" that I did is up - just cause I wanted to draw XD

I checked it out. Pretty interesting.
Here's my idea. Partly inspired by true events.
So. (Not sure if you're going to be the main character in this, but if you are, sure, why not?)
Friends sit around wall-mounted plug. Somebody gets sleepy, and plugs in a pair of scissors into the plug...in school.
Hilarity, getaways, interrogations and general worrying ensue.
I'll put more ASAP.

That can make for a great page!!! So if you want why not join? The idea is not so much to have it just revolve around me - I'll be more like a narrator

But those ideas are already flooding my mind that you put up XD

Um. Let's say my drawing skills aren't very good...hell, maybe a 12-year-old can draw better than me.
So...why not let the Tapas community do it? :smirk: After all, they are quite willing to do anything the beloved narrator would want to do...
Anyways, I'll be that producer of ideas. No prob :sunglasses:.

Sounds interesting. You're going to have to find more artists though, because I'm another writer. (Just sent you an email)

Yip will have to find those artists.... Fingers crossed!!! If not here I have one other place I might be able to get artists, though will wait on that option a bit

Just send me an e-mail And I'll give you access to the Drive so you can check out the idea and add your own however you like

I have to say that our Evotale collaboration started exactly the same way (random writers dropped one page of script, random artists picked something from the pile and implemented it) so I have a first-hand experience with that kind of collaboration and I can tell you that your implementation of it won't work on many levels:

  • It takes seconds to come up with a random throwaway idea, but it takes a lot longer to implement it in graphics, even a crude draft may take several hours to get it right. Your current proposal is practically asking artists to spend several hours and maybe even days working on someone else's throwaway idea with absolutely no payoff (and believe me, don't even try to mention the word "exposure", you'll get carped-bombed by rotten tomatoes.)
  • Fully random collaborations never work because they get very confusing very fast: even if you have two separate ideas to work from you'll have to decide which one to use or how to merge them together. We tried to overcome that problem by merging similar scripts into one, but it takes a lot of time and effort to do so and I highly doubt that you'll take that role.
  • There is a successful random collaboration comic here on Tapastic called Endless Winter, but it is being made by artists so no one there is just an idea guy, everyone is working on it and everyone is producing graphics. In your case it will be the opposite – dozens of lazy idea guys throwing ideas left and right and one or two artists who will have to make graphics based on random bits and pieces of information. Our Evotale didn't have that problem because we accepted fully developed scripts with panel layouts and everything, but you are willing to accept ideas which makes the whole thing even more complicated.

I can go on about many other smaller problems that will inevitably occur during actual production, but I won't because, well, see my points above.

The best way to test something is to do it yourself so if you're saying that you can draw then don't just sit there with your fingers crossed, take that random idea that was thrown in already and spend your own time implementing it! It will give you promotion, experience and exposure and you will have a very good idea about how much time and effort it takes to shape some random piece of information into a fully developed comic page.

That's a lot of food for though, thank you!!!

I know it's hard and can get confusing incorporating multiple "random" ideas especially when thinking not just about "ideas" but of styles from various artists too! But I'm hoping to still try!

I of course will continue to draw myself! As this is also a means to help improve my own drawing skills.

I'll take in your suggestions of course and the reference you provided and check it out!

Thank you so much for your feedback! XD
