Coloring or Lining?

i used to hate lining with all my being but over time ive come to make peace eith the beast. i cant say its as calming as coloring is for me but its not as stressful as it used to be.

as for colors i love it but its probably because i dont force myself to put a lot of though into it unless its absolutely necessary. it's probably why i love working on experimental pieces where i can try all kinds of crazy coloring styles. i s'pose thats why i chose the name vibrant

Hmm these two are kinda my faves. There's other areas that I hate and struggle with more. Of the two I guess I'd say colour. I worked with line for a really long time now, have that down to a T. Colour I can end up struggling with sometimes, especially for more atmospheric palettes.

Hate colouring with every fibre of my being. Started a full colour comic thinking "if I get better and more used to it maybe I will like it more" Got better at colour, but hated coloured five times as much.

Love line art and inking, always have since I was a kid, wish the picture could just be done after that step honestly.

Inks all the way, but then again it shows in most of my work. I end up just making high detailed inks and filling in the blacks with just flat coloring.

By the time I'm done lining, I'm always too lazy to put effort into my colours. 90% of my time is just spent on lines even if it does get tiring.

@ topic, I defffff prefer coloring. While I like the final product of line art, the process is maybe my least favorite of the bunch. Especially working on line art traditionally, I only get 1 shot at each line before I have to do touch up in photoshop lol.

I like the final result of coloring much more, and enjoy the process more as well (both digitally and traditionally, with marker). It's kind of therapeutic and something about colorful art has always appealed to me more than just black and white. (And i often feel like the color covers up pretty well instances of poor lineart ) it takes longer, certainly, but it's more fun.

(Note: this is mostly in regards to comics though. I still like color better in illustrations, but when I'm working on a standalone piece I don't mind the line art as much. With comics the pressure i put on myself to be fast and efficient leads to more mistakes, and more mistakes leads to more dislike xD )

I like lining. It gives me a satisfying feeling of cleaning up my sketch. As for colour, base fills is painful when there are a lot of detailed parts, which also makes shading worse. I also tend to be indecisive about shading hard or soft and end up unhappy with mixed results.

depends on the pages and my mood. colouring is nice bc it comes as an easy bit after the trials of thumbnailing and sketching, but its also where the pages are the very least finished and the place im most likely to get lazy and then annoyed with myself.

on the flipside, im... like... pretty good at colour. and i really enjoy applying and experimenting with different palettes and getting the values right. buuuut its also a drag bc i use big, detailed files and my computer hates me.

I used to Hate COLOURing AND it's only because I had no idea what I was doing, Like AT all,it was like swimming blindfolded. Nowadays I feel like my colouring compliments my lineart, ( which is just a clever way of saying I paint over my line art :>)

Lineart Is complicated for me because i was always really bad at good line art, and at the time I assumed Good line-art was clean, crisp line art, so, because of that I was in line art hell for a couple of years no lie, I think what really torments me are backgrounds , hhhh

Like, I enjoy lining too, because dynamic poses and gestures are my fav. But GOSH DARN, coloring is awesome! There's the possibilities of lighting, shading, patterns, effects in the eyes, clothes -- then, YES.

Depends on the page for me. I've had pages where the lineart was more fun-- usually pages with messy, natural looking landscapes or pages where monsters are running rampant everywhere. However, colouring mistakes are much more easily fixed than inking mistakes, so more difficult pages--like pages with lots of humans or buildings-- are more fun and relaxing to colour.

Coloring for me is soooo stressful most the time. I'll have moments where I'll enjoy it, but they're few and far between. Lining is definitely my jam, since I feel like that's where most of my style comes from anyway. I find doing the line art to be really relaxing and satisfying, cause I get to see my gross sketches come to life and look beautiful!!

I love colouring the most! I put so much effort in my colouring because I just enjoy it so much, especially when I get to work on interesting and atmospheric lighting.
I hated lining so much to the point where I exiled it from my style for the most part lol. I genuinly wasn't willing to start a comic if I had to have clean lines in it.
For my regular art I use pencil 'lineart' and I'm not sure if that really counts as lineart, I always thought of lineart as more clean while my pencil lines are way more sketchy. For the comic, it started with my pencil sketchy lineart but now the lineart is digital but it's pretty sketchy too and I try not to spend too much time on it.
Although I like seeing art with clean crisp lines but it's just not my thing.

I love lineart because I can shut my brain off and do it on autopilot, and I get pretty good satisfaction by the high contrast of black and white if I'm doing a piece that's meant to JUST be lineart.

With coloring, I hate the start of it. I don't mind the basing stage, but doing the heavy lifting of figuring out where the light source is and doing the first level of shading is just tedious to me. After that point though? I have a lot of fun making it look "pretty", and tbh I love coloring shinier things like armor and hair. So fun to me.

I love coloring. Weather it be with traditional materials like watercolor or acrylic paint or digitally, I just like playing around with shading and lighting, I like changing colors depending on the mood and I wanna get more experimental with it too. Coloring is the point where my drawings get depth and mood, so it's the part of the process where it starts looking good.

Well... which is probably because I suck a lineart. Traditionally it's a bit better, but one mistake there will haunt you forever, so that's annoying. And digitally... I just suuuuck at it. And I don't enjoy doing things I suck at I have been making steps forward and learning more about how to create interesting lineart, but right now it's an uphill battle for me that I have yet to fully grasp. I still enjoy lining to an extend, especially digitally, but it leaves me very unfulfilled a lot of the time. Because, as I said... I suck at it

I definitely prefer lining. I started doing colouring only a few years back, when I got a tablet, before that it was always pencil and anime drawings. To this day I'm not good with choosing colours and backgrounds make me so tired, because there is so much to colour!
Lining may be a bother at backgrounds too, but doing it is almost like meditation. And this is me every time I need to do colouring

Lining and coloring take about the same effort in my case, I'm not particularly excited about either XD I prefer coloring but only because I love the last step (and reward for my hard work) is when I can put some makeup on them... blush their cheeks and noses, color the lips. In my illustrations, I like putting orange, yellow or blue on their noses, and in my comic, I'm way more subtle and (I don't even think is noticeable) but that little moment is so satisfying and makes me so happy!!!

Colouring has so many parts to it. It can be quite complicated and finicky if you try to be artistic about it, and mindful. Not to mention, it's so time consuming setting even just the flat colours.

Basically, I'm actually a sketch guy. I love sketching. So, lineart is more my thing; though, imperfect lineart. I love having works that look a little less complete than they should. Lines are the strokes of action for me. Though, sometimes I find it hard to present that; my lines are still filled with as much joy as I can give them.
