Necro because I just was reminded of another one I do not like from my country

"Kaivaa verta nenästä" - "To pick your nose until it bleeds"

-Means to annoy/bother to the point where people are ready to pummel your ass.

Lol omg I have never seen that used in a serious context outside comics before!

Some people really take it personally and seriously when you don't have a marsupial in your cast of characters =/

I have never wished real problems on people before but some people REALLY need actually issues in their lives so they're not sending walls of text on how problematic it is that comic on the internet doesn't have a type of species they want since chapter 1 (there were was actually marsupial characters that show up later, but apparently that wasn't good enough and it was still 'problematic' because it was 'racist' to exclude them at all)

"Money is the root of all evil."

People say this wrong 90% of the time. It should be "For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.."
Here's to all the people who blames their misfortune on a non-living matter.

Not necessarily a pet peeve phrase, but I get rather riled up about alliteration...

Seriously though, alliteration is overrated. It's nice for adding emphasis to a line, but overuse in prose makes me want to vomit.

I love alliteration and assonance; however, I must admit there are cases that make me wonder what the author was thinking.. It has to be used sparingly, or with a good reason/concept behind.
Not literature, but I have a fellow small business owner who thought that having a business name with FOUR alliterating W in just two words was a great idea. I could not pronounce it without the feeling of having put a whole package of chewing gum in my mouth. It looked great written, but was the less euphonic thing ever

I really hate it when anyone above 40 says “You’re to young to understand”.
Umm... I have had a lot of horrible life experiences, my age has no barring on my knowledge of struggle and hardship. It also has no barring on my sense of responsibility or my knowledge of love. I have been in a relationship that has lasted years longer then your latest divorce SHARON!!!!

Ok rant over, lol.

Definitely agree that it should be used sparingly. Sorry if I sounded harsh. It is just one of those things that is easy to overuse, but very effective when used well. Kind of like salt.

That's a pretty... interesting example haha

I was inspired to reply to this question by a non-fiction book I was gifted, in which the author seemed incapable of writing three sentences without alliterating at least one of them (and it wasn't a comedy/poetry book). It really didn't help that he adopting a patronizing tone, and the alliteration just struck me as ridiculous. It was almost as if he thought that his ability to alliterate sentences would somehow convince the reader that he was smart and worth listening to. In the end it convinced me to stop reading.

Ah well, I should stop ranting. Thanks for your response!

"Everything happens for a reason"

And my personal favourite "God has a plan for all of this"

“The customer is always right.” I just spoke with some friends about this one. It’s become a problem in society, allowing customers who are obviously in the wrong to step all over people working in the service industry. Speaking from someone who works in it, it’s a bit messed up to have to worry that, if you defend yourself from verbal abuse, you could get reprimanded for it or you could lose your job.

Yes!! Customers can be crazy sometimes!
I routinely get some customers demanding outrageous or hazardous things (hazardous to me or to them) and get extremely upset when I refuse. At least I have the advantage of being my own boss so I can do as I want, but I know I'm losing a lot of customers and giving my business a bad reputation in certain circles because I refuse to accept crazy requests.

Let's be honest, the customer is rarely right. Even us when we are customers for a product/service outside of our area of expertise. And that's fine (and expected!) when it stays within reasonable limits, but too many people cross these limits...

@vothnthorvaldson

Yeah. I mean, we’re all human, and we’re all dealing with unseen things. We don’t have to be perfect. But it’s no excuse to verbally abuse those that are there to help you. I just hate that you’re treated like the problem when you try to shut the toxic person down.

Haha I'm sure I have customer stories that would amuse you.

Actually I'm thinking of doing a comedy comic with my weirdest customers, but I think I need to let more time pass so they can't recognize themselves in case they find the comic.

So the world will have to wait a bit before knowing the story of that guy, his penis and my peppers (and other stories :joy:).

The Penis and the Pepper. You have your title.

I'll aim for that new mature section then.
(Are you trying to trigger someone with your alliterations?)
