Different Fonts for Your Comics?

What do you mean? If you click on a font there are payment options at the bottom, all major credit cards and paypal...

Really? why don't I see this...I see the pay options, but none of them are links for actual payment...For the pay fonts, yes it goes to the cart...but I don't see a way to do anything for the free ones if I want to pay a license fee....

I do believe it says you have to email them (bottom, under General, license) to get an offer but I see they have a freebie for indie comic makers so you can use the free ones anyhow you like. I dunno, I always preferred things clear-cut and a pro gave me this advice early on: Buy a thing, never have to worry about license changes. Just in case, ya know, you end up super-popular and selling a ton.

I use Komika. It's toony, and it has accents, which is not important in English, but for French, it's a must !

I use "I hate comic sans" for Bet on it and I think I used Komika for my one-shot Dreaming

Once you download the free font it has a read me file with instructions.

Hi... can i ask a help from you??
I am not a comic writter or so whatever. I just like to use some fonts for my phone.
I really liked that Cloudsplitter font from blambot (the one with lower case), but it is hard for me to get it. Since it needs to pay for the whole family pack, which i just want the regular with lower case for personal use.
Do you think you could help me to maybe share the font??
Only 1 type of it...

I'm pretty sure the only legal way to obtain it is to pay for the full price, unfortunately. ^^;

The closest I can think of using a font for free (legally) is to ask someone to write whatever phrase or word you provide them and they give you an image file (either a jpg/png/rasterized psd or eps/ai of the outlines of the font).

If the person agrees to give you the file for free, then you get it for free.

Hhmm...Not what I thought this thread was about.

I have been toying with the idea of using different fonts for some of my characters, to give a slightly different 'personality' to them through the fonts as well as the words. I have noticed that several comics do this. Has anyone got any thoughts or comments on this practice?

For me, at least, I got my fonts from either dafont or Blambot, but I use different fonts like I use one for dialogue, and another for narrative. For SFX, I either use the free special effect fonts from Blambot or I just letter them myself.

Professional fonts can easily cost over $200, 'cause it's a ton of work creating them, so that taken into consideration, $30 isn't that much for a font actually, even if it's just for personal use! ^^

For people looking for professional fonts to a reasonable price, I'd try mightydeals.com. You can get plenty of high quality fonts for a very reasonable price, and it's totally legal Other than that, I've seen people mention blambot.com, which is where I bought mine (for $20).

And then there's dafont.com and fontsquirrel.com, where you can get some very nice, free fonts. It's not so likely you'll get fonts with like 14 different weights for free, but I think you'll find what you need for a comic

I've attempted to make my own, but it always looks... well... too neat. I really prefer doing the text by hand because I have a lot more options for how it looks based on the situation, like say... a really intense scene I can make the text sharper/shatter* or sketchy, or if they're nervous I can make the lines shaky and inconsistent.
But I guess in the long run having a set font for just normal dialogue is a good idea, but I know zip about those, sorry bout that.

*only a little bit, its still needs to be readable

I use Anime Ace for dialogue and Phontphreak's Handwriting for most sound effects. Both are free. :3

Yeah. I definately agree with Blambot. I use Manga Master for my comic as well as a bunch of other free fonts for sound effects. I really dig that the free fonts have a license that helps out indie comic creatives like us.

And yeah the price point seems steep but I've seen some fonts go for much much more.
