Are they restrictive or do they just not push them because they ultimately don't pull in the same numbers for them? Every platform ever will always prioritize whatever the audience gravitates more to.
I think its the same for Instagram or any other social media platform-- of course they're not going to prioritize such a TINY tiny tiny portion of their user base. It feels a lot bigger than it is because we're all hanging out with each other online. When IG made the statement about how they were prioritizing video and artists were yelling "NO ONE WANTS THIS" but in truth the app's engagement went up a pretty significant percentage when Reels were introduced. Of course they're going to follow the money and try and compete with TikTok.
The same happens here! Every app, website, platform; they all have a bottom line that not everyone contributes to in equal amounts. I think the best we can all do is still try to get any reach we can and cast a wide net.
All that said, I think strips overall do waaay better on IG than literally any comics platform because when people want to read a comic on Tapas they tend to wanna settle in and READ something VS. the way people engage with strips scrolling thru their feeds and see a quick lil funny thing they can instantly share with their friends and followers. There's a much more ~social~ aspect to strips that suits ~social~ media much better!
