Do creators wish there was a Creator’s app?

To be honest, I don’t see a lot of complaint and/or suggestions about this. Maybe I’m the only one?

After almost 4 years on Tapas as a creator, I hate using the browser on my phone or Mac if I have to make even the smallest of changes to a chapter. I want to access my Creator homepage on an app, not Google on my iPhone browser where it forgets my Tapas password every time for some reason, and where everything is inconvenient to see, zoom, and edit.

On an app, there could be a page/chat to interact with creators of the same genre (BL novelists interact with BL novelists; horror comic artists interact with horror comic artists, etc.). The Discord has a lot of spam/trolls and is difficult to interact with writers or artists of the same genre without it getting out of topic soon after.

I feel there could be a lot potential with an app like this, but I doubt I’ll ever see one for us in our lifetime.

no, because I do everything on my desktop and hardly ever touch the app (I hate when art platforms are mobile app only since that'd mean needing to transfer all the works to my phone/google drive before uploading them instead of just going straight from my hard drive)
what does chat have to do with a mobile app? it could easily be just part of the site... though I guess tapas would rather us just use their discord server instead of developing an on-site chat

i can see it being useful for folks whose workflow is primarily on a mobile device or tablet but given a lot of folks here are mostly desktop users there'd be more push back/opposition. personally i prefer desktop to app since my entire workflow is on my laptop but for a phone/tablet artist i can see where it'd be a bit more convenient

as for the social aspect most folks have either relegated themselves to the official discord or here on the forums with varying results. if anything i'd say it depends on what your seeking in terms of socialization/interaction but opinions vary pretty widely. like i'm more accustomed to using the forums but i don't really engage much since i either don't have much to show or that i want to share and just general experiences with certain discussion topics so i just lurk or pop into a convo if i feel inclined. the discord to me moves too quickly to keep up and as you mentioned changes discussion topics rather quickly and even with the addition of the "forum" function on the discord it still doesn't look too active imo

as for what kind of compromise or alternatives could work i don't really know but for me burnout has me feeling less inclined to interact most of the time anyways

I do occasionally check in on my comic from the app when I'm away from my computer, so it would be nice to be able to look at my actual stats from said app, lol. Might also be nice for the creators who don't have PCs.

This would be me where I do most of my activity on a phone! I only ever use the computer browser if I’m uploading a chapter. Editing, checking stats, reader interactions, etc, are all done on my phone. To keep opening a new tab to simply see my stats is so many extra steps.

After being on the discord since its opening and recently left it, it’s not the type of platform to be taken seriously without someone coming in trying to be funny and spam random words that have no contribution that’s why you don’t see “veteran” discord users on anymore, and they moved on to different servers or talk privately. There is also an issue where users talk smack about certain genres without regard that other users could be in said genre being discussed, so it felt very unwelcome at times.

My preference would be to do everything on computer but the reality is I delegate a lot of uploading to my breaks at my day job and using a phone browser is awkward as hell.

So, yeah. I'm right there with you on that one.

My main uploading is on the browser, but I catch a little mistake sometimes, or maybe I wanna check stats real quick, and that’s when I wish I had an app

I'm reminded of how my generation were told by the Boomers to shut up, get out of their faces, and go watch some cable TV. And when someone pointed out that the thing we grew up with is kinda shit we still get upset about it.

When it was our turn to be the adults we handed the Zoomers our smartphones and told them the same thing with the same results.

I wish there was a creator app too, or at least a page in the existing app. I don’t own a computer so it’s all very tedious lol. On my ipad it logs out every time. At least on my iPhone it stays logged in, but it’s still a bit tedious having to sometimes zoom in to see things properly. It’s like they never considered people not using desktop? It could definitely be more user friendly at least

I usually use my personal computer, or my notebook, since those were always more cheaper than getting an iPhone or iPad.
I don't know from where you are from, but making a decent computer out of outdated spared parts is extremely cheap, especially getting a netbook if a notebook is a bit too big for you, while also it is still portable. The thing is, that on my personal experience any mobile device is more likely to break or burn than a personal computer, depending of course in the amount of work you give to it. I work on a big canvas with several files constantly, so even my current Samsung Tablet needs to be emptied every month otherwise the files would make the whole system lag.

As well that... I believe engaging with fellow creators is something that can easily be done through here or the Discord Server, which, Discord is in fact an app. And if the problem is a certain community, then maybe you can try a different one, you can create your own server and curate it with your own set of rules and channels. It's no easy work and most of the time those servers end up desert, but its something that can be tried.

While I think it would be good to implement for those that usually work on phone or iPads/tablets... I can just imagine how buggy it'll be on the first years, or how the app may work normally but other aspects end up worse (Like the forum still having a few issues after it's latest update and such)

It doesnt bother me one way or the other. Yeah, I do everything on my desktop so I would have no need for an app- but there are times when I'm away from home and I dont have access to my desktop(either at my RL gig OR at a convention over the weekend)...I guess it would be handy then.

Also I dont check my comic every waking hour(like I used to).

I like the idea of allowing people to upload updates from mobile devices, because I think there are people who do make their whole comic on an iPad, and my partner often does a lot of writing for their Tapas novel on a tablet with a Bluetooth keyboard. Plus it would be convenient to be able to do things like small edits, checking stats or withdrawing earnings via an app, since the earnings just go to our paypal anyway.

I don't know if I'd go for an app where the main way to upload was mobile, and I'm kind of ambivalent on having such an app be a social media thing just for creators... but having some creator controls on the Tapas app would be convenient sometimes.

No I don't like apps. I am fine with that you can read Tapas comics on an app, because many people will prefer that. For making comics I am on a desktop anyway.

I do agree the Discord is a mess. However I don’t think we need a new app.

I feel as a creator, they could add more features that are creator friendly. Like more advanced stat breakdown. I also want the ability to add news updates without having to create a new episode. Like having a feed with posts that can be pinned or exist temporarily. Like saying “hey, I am going to be away for 2 months.” And stuff like that. People used to do that with Twitter but now less people want to use Twitter and people without accounts can’t view posts.

I don't 'cos I hate downloading things (I even use the web version of Discord XD), but thanks for reminding me I can access the website from my phone browser; I work on my phone, yet I always port it over to the computer to upload for some reason XD
