Do you draw NSFW with your comic's characters?

I draw some character reference images that are naked.

I often see that, but always wondered, does this actually have any use? Or people draw the full-body versions without thinking about that? I mean, the only time I felt it was justified is in a case of a character that had a tattoo that spanned her whole body from head to toes. Underwear would obscure it. But for... em... bits? They're basically the same with anybody.

Wellllllll, the closest I ever got to doing NSFW was artistic nudes where everyone was still censored and the picture was more emotional than sexual. That and I've drawn men shirtless. I'm a very shy person. I don't do that kind of stuff because I also don't want to draw in the wrong kind of people. I don't judge, I just don't get involved in that crowd.

I'm starting to. It's much easier to draw my own characters in that situation rather than some other franchise or going straight into commissions - as long as it's the ones that truly would be okay in a sexual situation. No minors, no age-ups, no ace unless their character would agree with an SO, no overly objectified subjects especially if the character in the story had that problem. If it ain't okay in canon, it ain't okay in my weird noncanon ship either. However, they get posted to my not so secret Pillowfort, since it's got good NSFW rules and I didn't feel safe at all making a new Twitter.

If it's in a space away from people under 18, there's nothing to be ashamed of. Consenting adults in pictures, the only thing I'm afraid of are other people ashamed of themselves that call the artists disgusting for daring to be sexual which is a big problem on Twitter. And, to stop feeling like that, I'd say thinking of yourself as unclean and wrong? If you're not doing anything fucked up in any way and it's not exposed to anyone that doesn't want to see it, what's really the problem?

My main comic involves 16 year olds, and I'm not super comfortable in drawing full on NSFW with them because of that. Though I've drawn like....2 semi-sorta risque pics. (Apparently enough for Patreon to mark me as adult content, but can Patreon really be trusted?)

Other than that, I guess I could do so with my other characters from different comics, but I spend so much time working on regular pages/updates, that I just never really think of doing that....Maybe someday? Idk, I mostly prefer saving that type of stuff for when it's canon. Maybe I'm the weird one. I like to keep that stuff as a surprise. lolol

Well, yes in those cases, but from my experience the 99% of the OCs I saw were either human or so nearly human that the difference was honestly trivial. Same goes for nude versions of ordinary human characters.

I'd say four reasons
-There's also not reason not to, so if it's your preference, just as rational as drawing them in underwear
-In my case, there's a chance the characters actually are naked in story, and there are plenty of ways bits can vary, though most of them don't change how clothes fit
-I write a lot of trans and physically disabled characters, which can add a lot of variation on what they've got going on
-The same reasons artists often study skeletons, then muscles, then nudes, then clothed. Understanding the base form can help an artist figure out why and how clothes fit that character and make the muscles flow correctly

But why should the default be 'with underwear'?
If someone draw characters without clothes to show their body best, I don't see why keeping underwear? The only reason (other than being prudish) I can see is that it could be easier to draw underwear than the body under, but, not that much, and as someone already said, it's a good exercise.

I don't have too much time for it but I do enjoy doing it from time to time, no prob (What I draw is usually kinda mild tho. I don't get any enjoyment out of drawing anything super explicit). I don't share them online because:
- Most if not all the nsfw art I've done includes my characters with my gf's, and since she's not all up for me sharing them I won't post them, obviously. I may show it to my friends but that's about it.
- All my stuff has always been sfw and I'm kinda too lazy to make a separate account only for that (it's likely there's minors following me so I'm not gonna share it on my mains).

Expressing yourself is important, I really see no shame in drawing nsfw (as long as you don't draw minors friggin obviously). When I was younger (arounddd 17 or so?) I was super ashamed to do so (even drawing a kiss was super embarassing), but when I saw no one of my circle would judge me too hard (like my anxious mind would tell me all the time ashgjksag) it was all cool c: This way I also get a reason to practice anatomy sooo it's a win win.

I do both porn and erotica for my characters. Depending on my mood. Sometimes they can become full fledged pages and panels depending on how involved in the scene I am. Granted I’m only doing porn for the couples and only for the couples I like or who are super horny and refuse to leave me alone.

I can’t be ashamed of it- it’s the only way I have if relaxing. Besides is the >characters< ideas not mine they’re the degenerates.

I don’t post it everywhere- tried to in the past but rarely ever got any hits so I just stopped and put them on my Patreon now or show my friends. Mostly cause everyone likes NSFW even if they might not want to admit it. My friends fuckin >love< my smutt so I’m much more chill about showing them- especially if they already love the character dynamics or if the porn includes one of their characters (as I play a lot of table tops which sometimes involves a lot of sexy role play)

So ye I’m pretty super chill about it, it’s all fantasy after all and like I said- it’s a time I can draw without having to worry about deadlines or if it “looks good” I can just draw and Not gaf

I only have a few borderline NSFW drawings of my characters. I just really don't feel the need to draw steamy stuff. I used to draw that kind of stuff a few years ago, but I'm to ashamed to show it. Not because it's NSFW. I just had a very bad understanding of anatomy back then. xD

I don't think it's something to be ashamed of as long as you're not doing something like putting minors in NSFW situations.

But seriously? Yeah, I have I'm still shy about it. It's really mostly because I just enjoy drawing different poses and anatomy. I don't post it or talk about because the whole idea of people knowing I make the "spOoKY GroSs NSFW" makes me cringe and I don't want to be known for that as an artist.

While I'm working on it for me personally, I don't think anyone should be ashamed of what they draw within context. Context is sometimes important depending on what you're makin', y'know?

Like if you're drawing porn of minors (that aren't legally old enough to consent in your country or the world they live in), don't do that? That's pretty sus if you're asking me. I won't stop you or anything, I can't control that. It's just... yikes.

Oh yeah, of course. Honestly, a lot of the mature stories I develop have their NSFW scenes drawn/written out first before I ever create the actual plot. My Demon Valentine had porn long before I finished the actual story. Actually has two doujinshis in the making. And Our Universe has more NSFW scenes in season 3 (mostly nudity and some hints to sex).

Point is -- if my characters are 18 and older, I've made smut for them. And I've happily shared them in the discord servers I'm a part of. Which brings me to the next part:

Were you ashamed of doing that? Do you post it anywhere, or you hid it in a table, not intending for it to ever be seen? In either case, why?

Nope. Never once ashamed. Very much open about sexual content, and I'm kinda an avid member of most NSFW art chats in discord servers. That said, I do keep my NSFW art separate from my main works. I have a NSFW twitter for this reason, and I do this because I know I have readers/followers who may be minors.

Hence, while my comics MAY have NSFW scenes, I either leave those for Patreon/Twitter and provide the cleaner versions online (though for Tapas, I just put them behind the Mature tag). Rather than being ashamed, I just don't wanna make it easier for kids to see my NSFW content, you know?

And how to stop feeling like an unclean perverted degenerate for creating such things

Honestly, me being comfortable is a result of coming from a household where sex wasn't a taboo. If I had questions about sex, I knew I could ask my mom and not be judged. That, and it's liberating. You understand what you do and don't like as a person who may or may not dive into sexual content. Hell, sometimes, making NSFW doesn't have to just be sexual. Sometimes, it's about the aesthetics, the same way one may draw the naked body. That, and let's face it -- if you dig around long enough, there is a lot of amazing NSFW content with great art, plot lines, and acting. I see it also from an artistic POV and it's an field that ought to get more respect.

My characters will probably have NSFW stuff happen behind the scenes, but it will stay SFW for what's shown in the comic. But, uh, yeah. I draw and will continue to draw NSFW stuff of them. I might share it on a locked down Twitter so only people I know are 18+ can view it. I might eventually set up an 18+ patreon tier or provide options for an 18+ zine or whatever if people ever want access to that kind of stuff. Gotta get further into the story and more followers before that will be an issue, probably.

tbh though i have trouble with specific characters that i project onto more, like harris from my novel sundown and william from my comic spire. drawing nsfw of them feels like posting nudes of myself.

Oh yeah all the time. Mostly when I need to reel in the sexual tension in my story. I ship my MCs hard but I have to be patient about when things happen so it keeps me in check so to speak.

Nah.
For a couple reasons:
One, for my personal religious beliefs. And two, for the sake of my marriage, my wife wouldn't be cool with it, so neither am I.

Now sometimes I draw bodies in proper anatomical fashion to make sure my proportions\angles are right, but I usually delete that sketch phase or scribble the crap out of it so it's not visible anymore xD
But beyond that I don't do any kind of Nsfw with my characters.
