Do you feel like the hype for anime is dying down a bit?

Like they stopped making episodes for Black Clover, Jujutsu Kaisen's hype is drying up, Boruto can't replace the anime Naruto and people aren't looking forward to seeing Dragon Ball Daima. I mean sure, My Hero Academia and One Piece are still there but....

It's like we need some new shonen anime that's gonna shake up the anime world, don't you think?

And don't get me started on Bleach....

Anime is still very popular, but it's maturing. One Piece is around as it's One Piece and people expect it to be there. I find it boarder line unwatchable but I'm not the target audience for it. A lot of shonen anime have run their course and need to be left alone. There was no reason for Boroto, other than to try and make some money. I'm hoping that anime just moves on and the audience with it to new stuff and not remakes of old stuff. Hollywood fell into this trap. Anime was always good to me because it told a story then moved on to the next story. They had a finish point (hence why I dislike One Piece). Open ended stories just feel unfinished. Anime should stick to finishing stories.

Actually, I feel quite the opposite. Anime is still a beloved medium and its presence in the media is here to stay. If anything, I feel like North American cartoons namely the style with an edge is lost.

The anime community is still alive, there's always newer generations to appeal to. Watching the same stuff is what makes you think the hype is dying.

There's so many other anime that has these emotions on people. I'd say anime has fallen into a trap where everything is too "niche" that you feel like you're the only one thinking about a show because you have no one to talk about it to. Back then the anime community feels more alive because there's Facebook groups or Twitter feeds where you're fed these communications.

So really, at the end of the day someone is still watching these things you just don't know who anymore.

I've heard a lot of people praising Pluto and Sousou no Frieren. I don't know if they're considered shounen though

Well... to be honest, Shonen anime is not the only genre out there, and the thing anime fans or otakus are watching tends to shift from time to time. So, shonen anime won't always be everyone's popular series. Even less now
To me there is as much shonen as there is isekai, too much of the same thing or the same tropes repeated over again at the point of not being that interesting anymore.

Right now, at least from the communities I'm on, a lot of anime fans are prioritizing other genres like fantasy, seinen and such.

Anime, in general, has normalized and expanded. Is not like back on the days where you could only consume what was being translated, dubbed or subbed online or via TV/Local bookstores, therefore why everyone into anime liked and watched the same shows.
Nowadays you have enough to choose and refine your tastes in anime, and since communities didn't conglomerate in a single space due to the lack of content, now they can separate and diversify, therefore why it looks like there are less fans nowadays.

I feel like anime currently has been the most main stream than it ever was. Or at least compared to 15 years ago. There are tons of anime merch and clothes at the store. I remember when I was a teen, it was much harder to find that stuff unless you went to a import shop or a comic book store.

When it comes to the shows. I don't think it's dying, I think there tends to be hype for series and it dies off over time. Part of it is also growing up, adults usually don't seek out teenage power fantasies. I also hate how fandoms have such short cycles. I feel like there has been series that came out this year and last, yet fans are demanding for something new. Maybe go back and watch some old stuff. I enjoyed Trigun Stampede. And if you liked that you can watch the original or read the manga.

Boruto always felt very gimmickly. I did think the manga was a bit better than the anime. The manga focuses more on Kawaki. (I heard the anime ended up adapting those part of the manga, IDK I didn't get too far into the show)

Well I wasn't trying to say that anime is dropping in popularity, I just meant that the anime world needs new shonen to spark things up again

It's peaks and valleys. Hype comes and goes I wouldn't be concerned about it. Anime has become super mainstream and not too long ago it was very niche so it's still going strong.

I'm in the minority I'm super looking forward to Dragon Ball Daima because it's something fresh with the series. Last time dragon ball did something fresh was like 1993. I've gotten very tired of whos hair/skin is what colour and whos identical beam is stronger than whos.

If Daima has an OG Dragonball kid Goku world martial arts tournament vibes I'm all for it. More actual fight choreography, less screaming and powering up pls and thanks.

Anime just feels more mainstream now, which is why we don't hear about it as much when new shows/seasons come out. I mean, we're getting anime movies in theaters when we could hardly find places to buy merch and DVDs back in the day. Shonen is great as an introduction to anime, which it why series like Naruto and One Piece were huge, but now we see more variety in the anime that people watch and attention gets more spread out unless something is really good.

Like, The Boy and the Heron, Suzume, Pluto and SpyxFamily all got a lot of people talking and they're all very different. I see it as anime having reached the same level as western shows where there's might be a lot of hype when it's just come out that dies out as people get used to the show's presence, like House of the Dragon, Succession, Wednesday, etc. Even Jujutsu Kaisen and its movie had people hyped, but it's natural for that sort of energy to die down after release.

They didn't stop (per se) the episodes of Black Clover. The artist decided to leave shonen Jump since it was getting difficult to draw weekly. According to an announcement Black Clover should return rather soon at a much healthier pace of pages for the artist.

And in the anime hype you only mentioned the shonen jump anime. Not the rest of the anime. That is actually a very small representation of anime. So no, anime hype is actually getting stronger.

Problem is nothing has replaced Naruto and Bleach during the time they earned the tittle of big 3. Sure Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, and Black Clover did have the spotlight but demon slayer ended long ago (manga wise). Black Clover has the artist of the manga taking a break due to health reasons (just like how Oda took many breaks due to health). Jujutsu Kaisen could gain popularity or lose it. It all depends since the pace is a bit fast.

Definitely not, maybe shonen is getting a little skimpy, but every other day i see twitter going wild for a new romance or shoujo anime LOL. Different genres spike in popularity at different times!

Anime was never really my thing but yes my brother’s love for anime has really died down
