Here's my Prototype:

Personally when I first conceptualized the story for my book and drew the sketch for the cover, I had a different idea of how I wanted the relationship between the main characters to be and how I wanted it to develop.

So originally, Caspar Shaw (the MC) was a 18 year old who was traveling the country with his childhood best friend Malakai. Caspar was supposed to be fatally ill, and It would be revealed later his best friend was actually a demon, and Caspar had sold his soul so he would have someone with him when he died.

I decided later I wanted more paranormal elements, so I changed the story. Now Caspar is a 25 year old searching for his missing mom and uncle while hunting monsters. Instead of wanting a companion to die peacefully with, he contracted Malakai to "be his friend," under the hope that Malakai would help while not betraying him or twisting the contract (since, that's not what friends do.)

Anyway, here's the updated cover!

and some drawings of Malakai's updated design:

Eventually, I would like to draw them in a similar pose as the first one though. Caspar is always going through so much he deserves some fluff hehe.

But please, share your prototypes and new covers, and share the backstory if you have any?

yep, my story was originally called "Tic Tac Toe" and the cover was a turtle with a tic tac toe board on it. And when the new season of the novel started I got a new cover twice. One that I made and another gifted to me by Vapidink

I have a new cover for every new chapter of the story.
Currently at the 3rd chapter:

Finding Daecon's Way started out with this cover, which was also the first time I had ever drawn Daecon. Those wings were a PAIN to draw.

Evantually, and for a short time, this was the cover. Didn't like it much, so I reverted to the original after a few chapters:

When I rewrote the story and gave it a new name (Defining Daecon) I went with a modified version of the cover that I didn't like, which should have been my first clue that I wouldn't like this one either:

And finally I just replaced that cover with this one, which I am finally happy with:

I should point out that the change in hair colour is canon. It was dyed blue at the start of the story but when he made his first shift the dye went away and it reverted to its natural white.

Wild Nights., Hot and Crazy Days was a journey from being really bad at art after not drawing anything for two and a half decades to learning how to draw on 21st century computers with 21st century hardware and software.

First iteration, showing the MC (me, in blue shorts) and a friend fishing in the local lake at the age of thirteen:

Second iteration, the MC (me) screwing around on my BMX bike while my friends watch (age fifteen) showing some improvement in the art:

Third iteration, MC (tall one) and friend snuggling in the woods in winter (age 14). I was getting a bit better at the art here, learning shading and different brushes:

And then the final cover, showing the night of the infamous Leather & Feather incident (MC age 25 or so, brown hair with glow sticks in his ears. This really happened, including the glow sticks)...

Hmm, not exactly a cover, but the first thumbnail(?) I used for Niji Chikara looked like this:

(Pretty boring, not finalized designs)

Eventually I decided to draw something more dynamic, and came up with this:

(Still not finalized designs, what the heck is that shading)

...Which I used as a base for my current cover, which now looks like this:

I've been thinking of doing a new one at some point. Maybe something that doesn't squeeze four characters into the same image, haha.

Omg I love how colorful it is! Getting major power ranger vibes!

I usually change my covers, especially with my last two books. They were contest entries so the first covers were rushed and then I made better ones once I had the chance, lol.

Here's the first cover for Antemortem

And here's the new one
