Do you have gods/goddess in your Novels or Comics?

Do you guys every put gods or any type of deities in your novels or comics? Do you guys feel there needs to be gods or god or god like deities in your story line? Do they fit in with the lore of the story you're trying to convey? Or did you want just to add them because why not? Write your thoughts out!

Yes, I have four goddesses in my comic. Specifically in my comic's story they are a focal point of the plot and they practically make up the entire lore of comic. The main conflict of the comic is centered around the past choices of the goddesses and how these choices have affected the present. There's not really a religious focus in my comic around the goddesses past the main characters knowing they exist.

I have Eight Gods in my comic too, they created the world and they don't participate very much in the story, but the worldbuilding goes around them as part of the culture. Why I create them? The main reason its because I wanted a representation of the base elements that are present on the world, another reason it's for power scale, some characters have powers really broken if they don't have their limits and rules, maybe some readers already saw that before in Marvel and DC comics, how characters are so powerful that they become gods themself, just because they don't have anything that can stop them and I personally don't like that, especially when they have established their own cosmic entities and results to be a bad joke against those characters.
It's disrespectful, is embarrassing and it makes pointless the existence of cosmic entities at the end.

Yes! my comic is inspired by medieval stories and sacred art. So, having a god is necessary.
UNO is an ancient God that can bless you with immortality, but he lost contact with the world so long ago. They want to reconnect with UNO to get his blessings again...

In my story I have a group of people known as "The Neutrals". It consists of Gods or people with Godlike abilities. Their powers are: Creation, Time Manipulation, Space Manipulation, Law Manipulation, Reality Rejection, and Void Manipulation.

At first I did not have more than 3 gods in one of my stories, but then it became important for another one.

I realized that throughout some of the story, they were just swearing to the gods and I only had one goddess in place which made me realize “oh hey, I got to give them deities.”

I did this to prevent any possible god plot holes in my story. I have about 20 of them in total so I won’t say much about them.

I want to show how much the characters rely on faith for guidance and how others aren’t as supporting of it. This mostly occurs during moments that require a lot of different perspective. For a person who doesn’t care for religion, this allowed me to make one of my own, without and criticism.

Yes. It made sense to have them in my universe, and one is even an important character.
However, I'm struggling with them, because I'm not religious and know no one close who is. So it's really speaking about a subject I don't know, and that is not easy to grasp. So I'm afraid that they feel artificial. If I had known how difficult it would be, I would probably have avoided having gods in my story.

I have a number of god-like entities in my story, although technically most aren't actually gods, just revered as such. There are some complicated aspects of how the cosmology of the world works that have led to that situation, and while there is an actual entity that functions as a real god (and provides clerics and the like with their powers), currently no one in the setting is actually aware that it exists.

I started doing a series of illustrations of the deities worshiped in the main region of my comic awhile back; there's still two I haven't gotten around to drawing but here's a look at the rest.

Yes, because they're a prominent part of the lore in my story's universe. There are two main groups of deities; giant birds, and skull-wearing reptiles. The giant birds bring life, the reptiles are supposed to guard it. Each continent on the planet has only one godly bird that protects it, while their can be hundreds or more "Reptillians". Reptillians can gain their status after being mentored and undergoing a transformation. But once the God Birds are gone, they're gone.

After the war, there now only remains one God Bird. And it is literally just a giant kiwi lmao (here's the unfinished concept art for that I'm too lazy to complete:)

This is the main Reptillian in the comic, he is called the Reptillian of Generations, but everyone in my friend circle just calls him "Big Daddy Reptillian" (abbreviated B.D.R.)

The comic also has sub-deities, which work under higher-ranking beings in Heaven or Hell. Most notably are the Reapers. Reapers in their universe harvest and guide the souls of the dying much like they do in Earth literature. However, these Reapers are a dog-like species that bare scythes in the form of very long talons.

Reapers are classed as either Reaper-Angels or Reaper-Demons, depending on the purity of first dying blood to hit their scythes. Reaper-Angels get to guide souls to Heaven, Reaper-Demons are forced to drag screaming, mortified souls to Hell.

Reapers can also reproduce with mortal populations, so basically creating Demi-Gods, though this is almost unheard of and usually does not end well:

Thanks. And no I literally meant it is spelled with two L's lol. I did it that way to separate the Reptillian race in my comic from the Reptilians that foil-heads claim celebrities to be lmao. Go on, Google "Reptilian" with one L, you'll get some pretty goofy results

Jade Kingdoms doesn't per se call their creator entities 'gods'. The Primal Races of the world understand those that created this universe weren't gods, but living creatures evolved to their full potential. The lesser races do call them gods however, for the lack of better understanding. Religion isn't important in my setting, as many have come to understand it is pointless to worship anything. You try to make a difference with your own power.

Not saying anything due to possible spoilers territory (or is it?), but I will share the Eldritch Guest from Hexameron here He's the main horror of the story, one that makes the plot possible

There's only one real deity here, but others were this or that way created by his wish (and were also worshipped as deities at different times). There are overall 13 deities of different importance to the world in the universe, but we only meet 2 or 3 who are important to the plot. The whole world is about magic and supernatural, so all the stuff about deities (and some things like who was created how and by whom) should be within the lore.

Yes and no.
I have many characters that are gods from various mythologies, but in my main universe they are just mortals.
A running theme in my series is the corruptable nature of power, and many of my characters have strong abilities that they consider to be godlike, so they abuse that power and oppress anyone they choose.

One of the main characters is named for Freya in Norse mythology, but she's not really connected to the source at all. Just a name.

Then I have this dude, Loki, the current villain of my arc.

Yes! In fact there are three main pantheons in my comic's world, one for each of the main races. In both dragons and asters' cultures there's a strong faith in their deities, they believe that their magic powers are a gift from above. Humans are more relaxed with it, though there's a big amount of temples in each city.
These are the gods in each pantheon:
HUMAN GODS: Life (represented by a cat), death (owl), Order (spider), Chaos (butterfly), Conquest (lion), Peace (lamb), Reality (bear), Ilusion (fox).

ASTER GODS: Dahilal (Moon goddess), Susham (Sun god), Nualim (Star goddess), Samal (Firmament goddess), Alun (Horizon god).

DRAGON GODS: they're the embodiments of the main elements (fire, earth, water, wind). They don't have a name per se, they're just referred by things related to their domain.

Not really, but i have this guy who appears in legends as a deity in my comic:

He created some stuff along with the Leviathan, a mythical beast. So he must be pretty hecking powerful. Yet it's never mentioned he is actually a god.

Many, many gods, in Splitting Image, though there's no one new thankfully. Aeolia's religion is polytheism after a lot of syncretism, and they basically went through every book about religion that survived the many disasters, and chose the wind/storm gods depicted to thank for the rains, good crops and weather. There's a lot of truth to that, as the barrier around the Four Winds Kingdom seems to only give way to wind and very small amounts of water, and the main High Priestess seems to be able to communicate with at least one legitimately.

The most popular gods worshipped are a very sanitized version of Ehecatl-Quetzalcoatl (with only book records, it was easy to interpret the sacrifices as metaphorical), regular Quetzalcoatl, Aeolus(naming the kingdom) and Rudra, the latter influencing most of the rituals, though like the others, was sanitized over the centuries and had a lot of misinterpretations.

I don't think every story needs deities, unless religion comes into your story often. I added mine as worldbuilding, since the region would get very religious over unexplained ways that the place didn't turn into barren rock after a while, and it also dictated a lot of expressions and habits of the characters, though only Mortimer is noticeably religious out of the main hero group.
