Personally, I want to be able to, but I often end up focusing more on how cool the music is and not my writing :smirk:

If you listen to music while you write, what kind of music is it?

Depends. Sometimes I have to turn it down until I can't hear the lyrics so I don't accidentally start transcribing lol

It depends. If I do listen to stuff, it's a podcast. If it's music, it has to be something along the lines of system of a down, linkin park, slapshock, greyhoundz, etc.

I get that :joy: It reminds me of how sometimes, if I have a random, unrelated thought while writing or searching something up online, I'll unconsciously type the thought out!

If I am conscious there is music playing. It is either in my head or it's on the stereo, but there is always music.

It depends on the day. Lately I've been enjoying true crime podcasts and YouTube video essays instead

I absolutely MUST listen to music when I'm writing. All the good/right words are hidden in the music. :sweat_02: It's mostly music from movie or video game soundtracks, but also some classical music thrown in if the vibe matches. For challenging chapters, I'll throw on the Dune movie score (or the Halo OST) and cue up the pumpkin spice diffuser oil to really get in the zone.

Music's a must! It helps to drown out background noise that can be distracting, especially during the day. For the most part I stick to OSTs that have no lyrics or have lyrics in other languages. Lately I've been listening to the OSTs of FF16, FF15, Bungo Stray Dogs and the Netflix Sandman series. Sometimes I'll also listen to Japanese city pop from the 80's or 90's.

I usually listen to instrumentals so i don't get distracted when i'm writing. I've been listening to a lot of Hans Zimmerman lately whenever i have battle scenes for my latest novel. I linked it here if anyone is curious what type of writing comes out of listening to that kind of music lol

I do! I find it helps me focus! Sometimes, I play pop songs to sing along to, and other times, I play instrumentals. It just depends on my mood. So yes, I like working with music!

I can only listen to instrumental music while I´m drawing or writing,
never with vocals.

I´m a musician and I play mostly 1950s music, a lot of rockabilly, rhythm´n´blues
etc., I avoid those music genres when I draw or write because they distract me
or make me pick up my instruments or sing. That means that I can only listen
to things that I wouldn´t play myself like classic or something like movie
soundtracks

Sometimes I listen to music and sometimes I don't. When I do, I listen to all kinds of musics from pop, instrumentals, hip hop, etc. I will listen to whatever type of music sets the tone for the next chapter I have it.
Ultimately no right or wrong answer. Do what you think will put you in the zone of being immersed in your writing. Listen to what your heart says. Even if you don't know it, experiment and see what works.

I practically created an entire playlist on Spotify just for that specific story to play along with! :yum:

If the music has no words, I might be OK. But if there are lyrics, I find it super distracting.

The best way to describe why is that when I listen to music, visuals play in my head sort of like Disney's Fantasia. It's hard to visualize other things when that happens.

On a side note, this doesn't effect math tho. I used to do my math homework with the radio or tv running.

I tend to listen to music that fits the vibe of the story. Right now with my historical/fantasy romance, I listen to a lot of classical music, it helps me better envision the story!
