Do you think of yourself more as an artist or writer?

From what I've seen, it seems most of the creators on Tapastic do both their scripts and their art. In my experience, people who wear two hats like that tend to have a primary discipline. As in, they're either artists who needed a story or writers who needed art. There are some people who are natural visual storytellers, so neither has primacy, but (and, again, this is based only on my personal experiences) those people are few and far between.

So, where on the spectrum do you fall?

As a tangent, are there a lot of collabs on this site that I'm just not noticing for some reason?

I'm more on the artist side but I hope to strengthen my writer muscle! I just love drawing twisty winding poses, think of those contorted bodies from the baroque art period

I'm definitely the writer that needed art XD Art is really really hard for me while writing is incredibly easy.

I consider my self to be both, actually! I'm a studio art and writing double major in college. I've been a story teller my whole life; I work very differently in telling stories through visual and written media. Comics are where they intersect! However, I'm very particular about keeping my cartoon stories away and distinct from my written stories. I've got a timeline in a cartoon story universe that most of the stuff I want to make comics of comes from, whereas every time I sit down to write a prose story, I'm making up new characters, new settings and new worlds. I've rarely written different prose stories set in the same world before, I like to make a fresh setting every time!
However, it's true, that I consider my comic more art than writing since I came up with this story many years ago, and it's more art work involved than writing work.

Definitely artist over writer. I'm Bad with getting my thoughts out with just words cohesively so often times I prefer drawing out explanations or things I want because I have no idea how to describe them with words

Still, I enjoy writing on the side. I dont do it Often and the stories I often come up with take me years to get to a point where I'm pleased with them.

I consider myself an artist first because that is what I learned first. However, I have pretty decent writing skills. I like to use them both because I can show everyone the world of my comics and tell a how the characters life unfolds. Sometimes my writing can be spotty so others take a look at it and give me feedback. Sometimes random scenes from one of the two comics I am working will float around in my head then all of a sudden I figure out how I can make it better.

I think of myself as a storyteller! I related a LOT to this tweet from Der-Shing:

I mean, I've always been drawing -- but I've also always had stories to tell, and that's what pushed me to continue to strive at art. I usually describe myself as a "cartoonist" rather than an "artist" because that implies more honestly what I do -- tell stories with art.

I see myself more as an artist because I've been drawing for most of my life, I started learning how to tell stories when I was in high school and I'm in my early 20's now so it hasn't been that long really :/ But I've been doing everything I can to improve my storytelling through writing and so far I've come a long way

At times it feels as though the story tells itself and I just follow along if that makes any sense...

I'm with @shazzbaa on this one. I learned how to draw and make art because I wanted to bring my stories to life. I think I'm equal parts storyteller and artist.

That being said, I do need assistance putting things to words at times.

While I've been drawing longer than I have been writing, I think I've grown to be a bit better at writing, honestly. My art needs some major work.

I actually think I've drawn more comic pages than anything in my lifetime. XD So I think I'm a better comic artist than I am a regular artist...I don't feel comfortable working outside of small squares. XP

Right now I'm new to writing, like just starting out w/ no prior experience but I have been drawing for almost a year so right now I'm better w/ art.
Edit: When it comes to writing (I don't know if this is the best way to start) but as a artist I just sketch the scene and place words over the scenario (Basically just putting it together like so.) But, normally I type out a scenario like There are two characters, they must escape like so, draw a scene with the characters escaping using the specific outline I made up (Something like a drawing/writing challenge, I suppose.)

I'd like to think both. I love drawing and I love writing to put those drawing into context, but I'm definitely better at writing for comics than say a novel. I'm not good at descriptive writing.

I'm pretty much right in between the two, with perhaps a slight lean towards the art. I'm with @shazzbaa and Der-shing Helmer - I'm a storyteller. I use art to tell stories. Even when I'm just drawing illustrations, I'm still trying to tell you something about what I'm drawing.

That's a tough one but I think I'm marginally more writer than artist, mainly because I probably wouldn't have started drawing without already having stuff written. That said, I'm fairly new to both so the jury is still out...

I'd say I'm artist first as that's what I've been doing longer and what I'm majoring in. I just have much more experience with it. But I've always wanted to tell stories through it even if I started drawing comics only few years ago.

As for writing, I've always had stories I want to tell but never felt that prose writing is what I want to do. I've written some short stories and drabbles and tried a few times to start a longer story but it never really clicked with me. Mostly because I see the stories and don't think about them in words so the translation to paper was pretty laborious. With comics I don't have to translate my stories from one "language" to another as much so I'm really, really loving this method of storytelling.

Both. I also write prose as well as writing and drawing comics. I like to just think of myself as a person who tells stories, whatever the medium. There are benefits and drawbacks to any medium, so I like to pick what works best for a given idea.
