Do you want your comic to be famous and recognized?Why?

@AlkseeyaKC the thing for me is that I'm not entirely making comics for money- I make comics coz I love to do it, but the best thing(job) in the world is to make money off doing something you love. Me making money selling my comic at coventions last year made me feel validated that there were people out there that like what I'm doing.

I agree with you in the sense that me making money doing comics makes me want to do more so that I can make more money. I dont wanna be super "all get out" famous; I just wanna make enough to say that "comics is good to me"- and be able to do things like use the money to pay off bills, live comfortably, and not worry about being broke(and I know people's definitions of "live comfortable" & "not be broke" vary). I have a regular job, and probably always will; I just want comics to be that supplemental income that keeps me from struggling.

If I had to choose I'd probably pick famous because if it's recognized but not famous, it might recognized for all the wrong reason

I'm happy that I just have the people I do who are interested in my work, but it would be disingenuous to say I didn't hope to get more exposure for my work.

One of my biggest fears is to die and be absolutely forgotten. Maybe even if it's small there's a chance people might remember me for my art. One can hope.

Yes the money I make goes to bills and food. I can't say we are living comfortable, we are working at it though. My husband just needs a new job so we don't have to commute. I don't have a full or part time job unless out count online commissions a full time job lol
I really dream of being my comics for fun. I guess I should say I struggle to keep my comic updated at the most I can make time for because I love it so much. I've been kind of stressed out lately because I'm not making enough to cover a page a month. I worry that I may need to stop. But I also fear not doing it and disappointing my fans.

But yeah I don't feel like dealing with or finding out I have a fanbase of .... "those" people(people fighting and starting witchhunts over the most inane shit, getting mad over character relationships or their ships didn't come true, or people giving me their ideas on what I should do).

Sure fame would be a nice thing, but a small, solid fanbase that really care about the work would be the dream! I work on my comic as a hobby and don't earn any money from it. Admittedly too, I don't pay enough attention to advertising my comic, so it would be a miracle if it got famous from my shite marketing.

Yes so I can be one of those people who's "made it" in this particular niche and because one day, I'd like to see tankoben copies of LoaA line the shelves of a bookstore be it a Barnes and Noble or your local library. Getting a Netflix series or just a really good anime adaptation would of course be a dream come true.

No because with that level of fame, people become too attached to you as though you are an idol of worship. In fact, I always say separate the creator from the person because at the end of the day, your favorite creator is another everyday person who gasp may have opinions or social views you don't agree with. Like, lets say you post something on social media that may not even be inflammatory or is considered "off-color" humour, but your fanbase laughs along with you on it and then some little teeny bopper SJW starts all this drama with you or some hack writer from "Kotaku" or where have you decides to run a smear article on how you are a horrible misogynistic baby eating sack of dog poop based off of a single tweet or picture that was completely taken out of context.

Like a lot of other folks have said, I'd like for it to do well enough that I could be supported from it and do it full time, but not necessarily be super famous and huge! It took me a long time to figure that out, because when I was in HS and college it was like, yeah, of course I wanna be famous! But after having a bit of success with my first comic and meeting folks who have attained comic fame and talking with them, it turns out I'm much less interested in the monetary/fame aspects and really just want folks to love reading my stories and who come to love my characters as much as I do.

The weirdest thing that happened when my first webcomic got more popular was I started feeling expectations from the audience and it...kinda messed me up for a while! When you're new in webcomics you have a ton of freedom, you can write whatever you'd like and who's gonna say not to? But when you have that big following suddenly you don't wanna dissapoint them and whoof, it's tough to bear that weight.

So yeah, if my comic ever does make it big I'd like for it to be after I finish it at least lol so I don't have that pressure! XD

Anddddd that is why I try to keep my personal life away from my comic or my role as a creator. People keep asking me why I don't advertise my comic on Facebook, it's because FB is way too personal for me to let my followers able to track it down just looking up my comic's name. It may make some people feel distance to me as if I'm not an every day person like them, but often time readers can't distinguish between a creator and the fact they are just a normal person like you. People do tend to look up to someone they idolize to the point they would be shocked to even get a reply from said idol. (So many of my readers acted so surprised when I reply to their comment and it saddens me)

But yeah back to the topic, personally fame and recognization are great, who wouldn't like being complimented. But it's a normal thing that haters come with fame and recognization. The bigger you are the more influential you will be and the more people would take your name to their advantage. Pewdiepie is such a good example of this. So yes, I would love to be famous and recognized, but spare me the drama.

I'd also go with the "yes and no" answer. It'd be great to have my work recognized to that extreme and be big enough to make a living off of my work, absolutely, but I don't care about having hordes of fans since I've seen the results of that.

I know if I ever did get to that point, I'd have to look at reader comments much more sporadically for the sake of my sanity, and would probably just drop off of sites like Twitter and Tumblr. XP

I don't even like Pewdiepie and it still boggles me why he has the fanbase he does for something so juvenile imo, but the whole thing with him labled a "Nazi" in light of an alleged off color comment/joke he made was a low blow coming from mainstream media. Then again, sadly anytime you disagree with the far left these days or do something to "offend" them, you are automatically labeled as such or you are accused of being a "Trump supporter".

Yes. So that I can tell stories for a living. There are far too many voices in my head to keep contained. So, please read The Beard and tell all your friends that reading it will give you superpowers or spontaneous orgasms - use your discretion on which is the more appealing option there.

I've been depressed for most of my life, and ever since I was a child, the only thing that's brought me absolute happiness has been to create and entertain others via my creations. Given that my comics (and soon, games) are pretty much the only thing of value I have to offer society, I want to be as well known as I can make it, which is not much, but, hey, it's something.

Whilst it is nice to have a dedicated fanbase and to make money off of your craft, I don't think the goal of fame should be the main catalyst of wanting to draw. I know people who make comics solely because they want to be rich and famous and this usually shows in their work. If you put in the minimum amount of effort, don't expect maximum results!

The idea for our comic is something personal to us, so drawing it makes us really happy specially seing the reaction from people. We would love to live doing the things we like, doing more chapters in less time, start a new comic in a few years and more. This comic is our first step, but we want to do more and improve, but we know it would takes us time and being famous would come, but we enjoy doing the webcomic (even if we don't have much time right now) and that is more important.

I think for me, it was because I saw a friend putting her own comics and I loved how decided she wanted to publish them. And when I kept exploring on Tapastic I found that why not I give it a shot and I did want to challenge myself in my art and I had a desire to draw comics for a while so why not? But it does differ from person to person and for me that's just one reason.
