Does anyone older than mid 20s still have online chats with friends?

I feel like once you reach a certain stage in life, you're either too busy or too disinterested in msging people lol. If I want to hangout with folks I have to schedule a day.

Absolutely. If I'd only talk to them when we actually meet, I would talk to them like twice a year not to mention I have friends who are either in other cities or countries, so.

Well, considering that all my closest friends live in other cities and it's hard to get us all together in one place irl, discord is cheaper than sending them smses or making phone calls

Yup. I'm 40 and not only chat online daily with people I know both IRL and solely online, I do so on multiple platforms, and sometimes introduce them to each other. They range in ages from ~20 to at least late-40s, so I'm not just the one weird older outlier in a sea of Gen Z or something.

I'm 38 and I still message friends online. I grew up in a small town in a rural part of England, and part of how I got into webcomics was as a way to connect with people, so I've had a bunch of online friends since my teens, and I'm used to not seeing my IRL friends that often and chatting to them online too. I did my first degree in Japanese, so some of my old uni friends live in Japan now, so I can only really chat with them online.

I don't really feel like I run out of stuff to say, because most of my friends are people I share hobbies with. I'm bad at small talk IRL, so most of my conversations tend to be about shared hobbies both in-person and online.

Lmao! I must be out of the loop too because I haven't talked to my friends in 7-8 years or so, I just assumed we went our own ways and that's just what people do when they grow up. Last time I talked to the only one left was when I messaged her to see if she wanted to go to lunch for my birthday. Set the day when she had time off, started driving out on the day of, she didn't answer any of my messages or phone calls until the last minute with a "I can't, sorry." text, so I figured she moved on.

I'm 32 and I have several different groups of friends that I keep in touch with. Some of this groups I've been in touch constantly since my early 20's. And I also hang out with said groups when time allows it.

I'm 32 and I mostly chat with strangers online. I have tried many times to create connections with locals and it never works out. I am not sure if it is a generational thing or a mindset of the people where I live. People where I live tend to be very antisocial.

I'm in my 40s and still talk to friends online. Most are friends or family Ive met in person or have known online for over 20 years from chat rooms like yahoo. Some became like digital penpals in a way from different locations around the world. They have lives: Careers, kids, travel and some have grandkids now. So its more sporatic. Some are not so tech savy so use FB (which is horrible at DMS with bugs and crashing alot). Others use Line Messenger its more inclusive and reliable for us.
My husband uses Discord because him and his friends switched to that years ago.
For me it was yahoo messenger, then msn messenger then skype (still use it for clients) and now line messenger.

It's the complete opposite for me and my friends and acquaintances. Over the years we have moved to different places and countries, our schedules aren't as compatible anymore, small children, busy jobs, time zones, etc, so keeping in touch online becomes more relevant. Back when we lived in the same location there was no need to rely on the internet that much :')
