Hi there!
So, I don't use 3D models often. And usually when I do, I like to make a reference outline from the model before tracing over that outline. Often times, I see people trace directly from the models, and it makes it very obvious. For my suggestion, I find it better to make an outline of the action from the model so that one understands what they're looking at. For example -- look at this layout I've made.
For the first image, you have a regular old 3D girl. She has a more dynamic pose that shows the limbs in motion.
For the second image, I turned down the 3D’s opacity to draw over it. What I drew was her pose outline. I took into account for where her body is moving in motion, and what that looks overall. A lot of times, let's be honest, many beginners don't do this. They believe the 3d models are always in a perfect look as they are. But, problem comes when they're trying to use all of these models but don't know how to implicate the pose into their work. That's where outlining the movement comes into play. I outlined the movements to see where the dynamic figure lies and how can I transfer that to my own work.
The third image is what I got as a result!
I then used that pose to draw this girl right here!
Her body without the outline:
Notice how her pose is both similar but not accurate to the 3d model? It's not a straight copy. Rather, by using the outline, I was able to create my own reference in my own style, which then allowed me to replicate the pose.
