But in all seriousness I 100% agree with you guys. I had a gut feeling that this was shady, but you've definitely put into words what I could not. I'd rather be a small fish in a safe pond.

That is a very common statement to put into a user agreement. The power to change the agreement almost always lies exclusively with the side which wrote the user agreement. Similar language is probably used by your utility, your email provider, and your employer. This doesn't make it right, just common. As for no contract, they are using the User Agreement in place of a contract. Unwise, but it doesn't look particularly shady to me.

From what I have read in this thread, the website is most likely a 90s style DotCom start-up with wild hopes of becoming a big data company. If someone here has some work that they don't care to protect, like how I release my novels with a Creative Commons license, I do not see any harm in giving them a shot.

Beyond that, my best guess is that @kytri is right. This company is unlikely to be around a year from now.

The only thing majorly bugging me is the actual site's name. I thought it was a site that asked you to draw people's OCs in your comics lol.

Same, I hate the name... and the branding in general.

I posted free comics on both Tapas and Drawmeincomics. I am trying all avenues to figure out which is the best place to build my audience.

The difference i've noticed is, Drawmeincomics lets me also post "for sale" comics while tapas is exclusively freebies. I like the option of giving away freebies especially if it makes it easy to buy my "not free" comics. Tapas seems more difficult for that,

Some people have asked how Drawmeincomics makes money. It's not through ads. Its from their coin system. You dont pay for comics directly with a creditcard, instead you buy token coins,and the site takes a cut of that transaction. It doesn't seem any different from any other site such as comixology who takes a cut for themselves from every sale.

I've never paid for anything on Drawmeincomics, and I have sold a couple of copies of my "for sale" comic on it. I also got some nice reviews on one of my freebie comics, which was cool.

The analytics that i've used on it has been free. It seems to be accurate and shows me how many people have downloaded my comic to read. I actually like it better than Tapas because I dont believe the tapas numbers. Tapas said 5400 people viewed my comic? And theres like 2 comments and 4 subscribers? Whereas, Drawmeincomics says 70 people have viewed my comic, and 7 people have left reviews and 5 subscribers. That seems more realistic. I think that Tapas numbers are not very reliable. I don't think 5400 people have looked at my comic on tapas. So what does that number mean and how is it valuable to me as a creator?

So thats my experience with both website. If you have had a bad experience with drawmeincomics then i'd love to hear about it. But so far for me, its been one of the better free comic sites i've tried.

they claim in their site "Draw Me In Comics is the #1 digital sales platform for selling your indie creations." i dont think thats true and that makes me not trust them so much

I wouldn't bother with that site. I was one of the first creators to sign up.

When you finally reach the 'cashout' amount of $50CAD... the only payment option they offer is bank cheque. It took almost a month to arrive. When it arrived, I cashed it... only to be told that I would receive $23 and it would take 20 days to cash.

I reached out to the site, letting them know they should look at using a different payment option... but they didn't reply. So I requested my account be removed.
