While it's instructive to remember the ugly chapters of our various countries' histories, I think honest love of country can be a good thing as long as it benefits everyone. And I'm willing to bet most or even every country has given the world something innovative, beautiful, or otherwise beneficial to all humanity.
Now I have made it abundantly clear that I am a US citizen. While I won't even pretend this (or any) country is perfect (Heck, I won't shy away from American imperfection. I address it in my comics, albeit while trying to avoid propagandizing), I quite like living where I do, and I think it's pretty easy to guess why. But I'm not even here to post this. Rather, I want to hear, honestly, without any direct or passive aggressive sniping at other countries, about what you like. What makes you proud, if proud is your thing. What makes your country unique. Why it's a good place for you to live.
It could be as simple as personal preference or something you enjoy about your way of life, although on account of me being a history buff, I'd also love to see posts about unsung heroes and heroines, contributions to science and the arts, and even obscure facts that might not be well known beyond your borders.
We've got other threads devoted to grousing about politics or outright bashing our different nations, whether our own or someone else's, so let's keep that there. Here is for celebrating our nations and their achievements. And I'd also like to see positives about other countries, too. (I had a fantastic experience with some of my brother and sister First Responders in the Bahamas which made me think of how we could improve service where I live, for example.)
