It's a garbage comment, in my opinion. I get why they did it, that whole "I dunno where else to promote" mentality is very real lol but there's not even an once of interest in your comic! Almost as if they ignored the content you made just to advertise their own! Which, sadly, might very well be what happened! I'd be more tolerant if they had left some kind of a review of the episode you posted, but they couldn't be bothered to do that.. It's not cool at all.
Definitely poor etiquette xD It's the same kind of nonsense you see people doing in YT comment sections and other such places though. The rule of thumb is that you should only either advertise on platforms you own (social media accounts, personal websites, etc.) or where you have permission, paid or not (things like cross-promo, comic-based subreddits that encourage the sharing of OC, paid advertisements, etc.). Randomly spamming things like this isn't cool or (presumably) very effective xD
I think is an unsavory and counterproductive move.
If that user repeats this behavior you can block him/her. You can also delete the comment.
Some people just don`t understand advertising. Timing and choosing the space is key. A comment section of another comic is a bad place because it comes of as desperate and unpolite, which are both bad impressions for their comic and for them as a person.
It is definitively poor etiquette and frowned upon. Hope more people becomes conscious of this.
It's a sucky thing that happens all over the internet, unfortunately. People will hijack comment sections for all sorts of things. Just be glad Tapas has a reasonable delete/block system unlike some other sites.
One of the saddest things about that kind of advertising is that if they took the time to actually show an interest in the comic, I'd be more likely to check out theirs, I dunno about other creators. Even spending five seconds to look at the current update and commenting on it would be infinitely more likely to get me to check out them and their stuff, and earn some good will, while this just makes them look bad.
I dont know, i know with my experience dealing with them has never been fun. I get that theoretically the idea of using an already established platform to garner more attention for themselves is a good method, but ive gotten so tired of these and just ignore them. Generally anyone who follows me and sees this will most likely ignore it too or if that guys lucky someone will click on it. I know actually communicating with these kind of advertising can be toxic and not worth it, theres no annoying insult than being called a terrible person for not helping them out, despite also trying to make a name for yourself. Whats even worse is when they talk trash about you behind your back for trying to ask them to stop...
Its not really worth stressing over, at least i stopped caring, they arent really hurting anyone but their own image imo
For some reason, I'm personally not bothered when people send you a private message "Hey can you check out my comic?", some people don't like it but I really don't mind. BUT this is just rude. Not care at all for the comic and just write a comment to promote their stuff. Your subs are there to watch your content, it is disrespectful for them too. I would never subscribe o someone who does that.
It is like walking into a restaurant and tell people there "Hey stop eating here, come to my own restaurant".
True, the best is to ignore because your own readers are not even likely to click on their spam.
At least that one offered something in exchange jajajaja. Still is unbecoming to do that.
It's so insensitive and disrespectful. I don't get it, these kinds of people CLEARLY understand how important it is to have an audience for their comic, yet they're willing to completely ignore other peoples' content and use their comic for self gain.
PMing random people or posting on their wall, sure, ok. That kind of advertising is more hardcore and become a little annoying after a while, but commenting on someone else's hard work telling their readers to check out their OWN, I hate seeing that kind of stuff. It's just rude
Unrelated... But is it just me or people fron Webtoon are kind of lacking in attitude, due to the audience is bigger that the bigger chance of shitty people being there too?
I never encountered such behavior in Tapas, even though I think that kind of behavior is mildly annoying and easily resolved.
By the way, the first comment of my comic there literally is:
"Which is better, this comic or 'another one'?"
Like what the hell does that mean?
Those kinds of comments are rude and disrespectful. Person commenting came to someone's content and all they cared about is to promote their stuff in the most annoying way possible. I delete those comments if it's possible, when someone posts something like that on my anything. PMs and posting on someone's wall is a little annoying, but I'm okay with that.
Sucks that Webtoon doesn't allow to delete comments. Hope that this person won't do something like that again.
I don't use Webtoon, but I've read on this forum A LOT of stories about people being rude there. But I guess you're right about this being related to the audience size.
