How do I reconcile the fact that my villains have no reason not to use guns with the fact that my heroes are not bulletproof?

I cannot think of any reason why my hero would be bulletproof or have any bulletproof armor, but also there's no reason why there would not be any bullets used.

You’re the writer, you can just.. make a reason. Maybe it’ll be silly, or nonsensical, or stupid, but every story has stuff that doesn’t make sense and people ignore it to enjoy it.

Ah, the villain, you see, is an old soul at heart. They believe in the elegance and artistry of combat, the dance of blades if you will. To them, using a gun is just so... impersonal. They want their nefarious deeds to be performed with flair and style, not with the push of a button or the pull of a trigger. After all, anyone can point and shoot, but it takes true panache to wield a finely honed blade with just the right amount of villainous charm. Plus, they've always had a soft spot for dramatic monologues and swashbuckling showdowns

I sometimes feel like people over think the logic of stories that are meant to be fiction.

Heck, you can set up a character buying a new sports bra then have the twist being that it ends up being bullet proof. Yeah it’s silly and not 100% realistic. But that’s the whole concept of suspension of disbelief. As long as you have the set up and pay off, most readers won’t care. Similar to how the Christian preacher gets saved by the Bible in his pocket blocking the bullet.

As for the villain, I think some people will fire their gun when they are stressed or frustrated. If the protag is doing something the villain doesn’t want them to do, that could be a reason for them to shoot.

The villains, in this case, being soldiers who have guns and have ganged up on the hero, who is apparently not bulletproof, yet survives "being hit." Just have the 'bullets' not be bullets from a standard firearm. Make them shoot magic or something.

You have the villains use guns, just make the hero not get hit. James Bond is not bullet proof, neither is John Wick.

Yea, 'tis been a fair question for decades. But at least you can justify it with most of the instances that a figh is occurring, it's not taking place where a gun would be easily attainable. And wands are way more fun than guns.
