My songwriting woes continue...I've gotten to the point where composing the accompaniment is actually easier than figuring out what the singers should sing...
It's just...90% of all the music I've ever heard has been about romance in some way: it's either literally love songs, or songs about being mad at your ex, or songs that sound like they're about other things but are clearly metaphors for falling in/out of love. I've learned it; it's part of my consciousness; all the clichés are burned into my brain...!
But the idea of writing a romantic song for myself (or rather, my fictional band) is just...no. It's not me...I feel like I should write about things I actually think about.
Unfortunately, there's very little burned into my brain in that department. 6_6; It's hard to know where to begin, or even what to choose as subject matter...
I've tried replacing romance clichés with other ones...like last year, I was working on a 'magical girl' OST for funzies, and it was surprisingly easy to write about 'friendship' and 'working together'. ^^; That's not really me either, though; I can't do that for this project.
I've also considered taking inspiration from songs in other languages...a lot of J-pop, surprisingly, is just about...things. Like, it's more thematic poetry than the kind of clear narratives you get with Western music (it does have its own clichés, but they work a little differently).
Unfortunately, I suck at poetry too (surprise surprise)...somehow trying that feels like it'd be even harder...
...I dunno. I'm kinda at the end of my rope here; I'll take whatever suggestions I can get. :6
