How often do you put real life people into your comic?

Actually, pretty much everyone in my comic, Those Called Wolf, is based off real people in my life!

I don't tend to put real life people in my comics unless it's explicitly meta in some way (e.g. the comics I'll do sometimes where my characters talk to me about whatever's going on in their stories). That said, I have found myself drawing some inspiration from real life people in character designs, usually for extras lol.

Two of the major characters in Sanguine--protagonist Xanthippos Granger and his friend/benefactor Phillipa Van Drake--are named for dear old friends of mine, but not exactly based on them. Phillipa has more in common with her namesake than Xanthippos has with his, but she is quite different from her inspiration in several key ways.

Actually, for me, all of my characters are based off of people in real life. Like you mentioned, humans don't often act logically, and a lot of the times they make poor decisions or let their emotions effect their actions too much. If I didn't base my characters off of actual human beings (and choices they make) and off of traits instead, I would have some pretty stale characters...

However, this is actually pretty hard for me to do considering that I have like three friends

on a side note, putting little pieces of me in my characters also really helps with keeping them realistic. Write what you know, right?

In the comic I'm writing now all I've done is base the appearances of the main characters off of people I know in real life. They're loosely based as they all went through a couple redesigns but real people are where they got their start. Same for background characters. I try to base them off real people because they end up looking more interesting.

I don't really have anyone in mind for my characters. They are who they are because of where they came from and their past experiences. They also make some really dumb decisions, but those are also based on their history.

Since I'm working with a fantasy setting that includes soldiers, there are some hints here and there that some of them deal with their fair share of PTSD - and I have someone with PTSD in my household. It's not an important part of the story, but allows me to figure out how my male lead would react in certain situations. PTSD can drastically change a person's character, make them more cynical and harsh than your average farmers boy. I would say that is my only direct connection between real life and comic.

So my main cast of characters pretty much take different personality parts of myself. It helps me write them a little bit better. For example my main character has a really hot temper over really stupid things, and the love interest is easily attached to one person in specific. Those are two huge things that are a part of my personality, but I decided to spread it amongst the cast.

Otherwise I shoved a bunch of different stuff into each character from various people I have known throughout the years. It's always personality wise, and not usually visually.

They say to write what you know, and I knew a lot of people in high school. However, the type of people I knew were all really weird and goth/skater/druggies/scene kids, so that type of group element has leaked its way into my comic. Haha. Well, at least it'll keep it interesting.

Never. Not consciously, at least. I like to build my character from scratch.

All of them, but not directly. I mean, I took inspiration by stuff that I lived and people I've met, but no character is directly inspired by someone in particular.

I do use friend's faces when drawing crowds, because I tend to make them all the same

Ginger from Super Ordinary House started as basically just @HollowEve, which is why I approached them with the idea. She has since evolved a little, but yeah, she came from a real person.

Also, in my novel Spectrum, Holly is just my twin sister. Or, at least, how my sister was in high school.

Oh yeah some of my characters were definitely based off real people. I'd say most of the alternative teen characters in Welcome Back and All Broken Gods were based off real kids I knew years ago in high school who were absolutely bizarre and weird. I could not relate in any shape or measure to these kids growing up because who in their right mind dresses in a tutu with army fatigue on with hello kitty accessories and Egyptian make up??

I tend to mix it up - almost all of my characters have a little bit of me in them, but quite a few are based on people I know. It does tend to be more the little things though, like I borrow mannerisms, ways of speaking, certain patterns of thought or expression... I find it helps to make them more real, but I'm wary of making it too explicit.

The Nana in Far Out is a complete characterization of my own Nana. Her personality is so...unique, that it works wonders for a cartoon character! As for the others...I try to add something relatable to me in each of them and very loosely base their personalities on people I love.

i inspire myself from a bunch of my younger days school friend's personna or people i know in real life, or i knew, and try to make interesting characters out of them ^^

I have at least 4 that are based on people or family. The main cast tho was entirely unique, I'd had the idea for several years before working on a comic so they were plenty fleshed out. The side-characters are usually where my life-inspirations come from. But yeah I never use THEM-them, just personifications of their biggest traits, and design a form for them for the actual character design.
