The initial idea for Grassblades is about 3-4 years old.
At first, it was pretty vague and loosely tied together, and I let it sit in the back of my mind, kind of simmering away without me actively doing much with it for a while. I poked at it every now and then, inventing new characters, and potentially interesting scenes - but I couldn't seem to get it to come together in a coherent fashion, so I grew kind of frustrated with it.
Then, late last year, I had a breakthrough - finally, I had my main antagonist! Once I'd cracked that particular issue, everything kind of unfolded and fell into place in a matter of weeks. I've been working furiously at it ever since, and started posting it on March 2nd - which means that today, it turns 5 months old! Happy anniversary, grumpy samurai-comic!
The reason I kept the idea around without giving up is because I knew I had the seeds of a really nice story - a story I really wanted to tell. I just couldn't get the puzzle pieces to fit together quite right. But when it comes to ideas, I tend to be a pretty patient person; if I just keep the small ideas around for long enough, they eventually turn into big ideas, and then I can actually start working on them.
