How to Pitch for Tapas Incubator

Hi Harmony! For the Incubator Program this time around they're looking to fund a new comic - so if you're only a writer (like me) you'll probably want to partner with an artist. I believe there will be a call later on for comic script writers - and there's always Tapas Writer's Camp for novelists!

While I'm not personally at a point where I'll be applying for this program this time around, I still took a lot away about pitch writing in general Particularly, as I near the launch of my first comic, going to take a little time to refine my cover summary/log line to try and achieve maximum impact!

Hana-chan: I have a manga that I'm interested in participating with, but I went with the overall traditional monologue coloring except for a few occasional colored panels. Does this mean that my work is not acceptable for Tapastic?

I usually use Google docs because I can easily share it with people, do edits in real time, do collaboration, etc... ( Plus I have a fear of MS Word ever since it crashed on me years ago and I lost a whole chapter of a story )

But I have friends who use and love celtx! I'm going to give it a try with my next script. But, my needs are pretty simple, and I think all that matters is that you have a program that you find easy to work with.

I can't answer for sure, since I can't speak for the selections committee, but I do believe they're looking for full color vertical scroll, same as Korean webtoons. However, maybe your comic has a great story and look to it, and if you do get chosen, they can always hook you up with a colorist or maybe you can discuss how to use colors throughout the comic in a way that works for everybody. Thank you! And also you should listen to your friend celtx is really helpful. The program basically does the hard work for you! You can choose between writing a audio play script, theater script, and also comic scripts! (Seriously you won't regret it, I know I don't)

Oh, and you can have chats and share edits on there too. I think you have to get a certain version to do that, I'm not sure ...but overall the basic program itself is free unless you wanna upgrade it to like the premium version or something

The basic plot of season one. The synopsis for Born Sexy Tomorrow linked in the pitch example is very specific; I wrote it after we’d actually outlined the story. Yours certainly doesn’t need to be so specific, but you want to write enough so that the editor can get a real feel for the plot of the story.

Would you be able to provide this link again? I'm having a hard time finding it

This is my first time submitting my idea to a publisher, so I'd like to learn from successful pitches and try to get mine as close as possible

I noticed that in the example pitch... you had a section called overview (which I'm assuming is referred to as story themes this year) and for that section he had three paragraphs. Does that mean it's okay if we write three paragraphs for the Story themes section too?

I'm only asking cause there didn't seem to be a limit for the Story Themes section

Hi @RonuCreative! I can answer this one.

You don't need to write three paragraphs, but if you want to, you're totally fine communicating the themes in any way you want (bullet points, short phrases, sentences, etc.) Just make sure you tell us exactly what kind of message you want to tell your readers
