I'm looking at examples of a blurred fist or foot as a character kicks another and I'm scratching my head at how it's done. The shape is clearly defined yet blurry at the same time. Is a layer drawn than doubled and shifted? Blurred with movement lines?

What are your processes (especially for the swinging action type, not a direct punch)? Thanks for the input!

I've read a tutorial about something like this a long time ago. It said you sort of "outline" the arm, feet with small dashes parallel to the direction of the action.

something like this: (or morel like how i usually do it)

Sorry if this is not so anatomically correct and a bit dis-proportioned

I need help with this too so Ima track this thread. :"DDD

maybe show some of the examples you want to emulate, so we can help you figure out what they do?

i vary with showing limbs in action. sometimes, say if a character is waving, i draw the limb in position 1, and slightly less detailed (maybe white lined) in position 2, and then add blur and action lines inbetween, along with this thingy:

like lil icicles on the moving object that kinda act like a motion blur.

other times, i just add some action lines and an impact line, if its like a pat or something. or just action lines for a nod. for a high action hit, id prolly draw the fist (or foot or other offending object) with a lot of foreshortening and an energetic gesture, and then use the blur icicle and impact lines
